Like the title says, is there any ammunition for the Tokarev currently available that isn’t steel core?

Bought about 300 rounds on a lark but no good at my indoor range. Would love to run the thing some.

Off the top of my head S&B as well as PPU offer some, quick Google search has it between $30-45 a box which defeats the purpose. Be better off buying a 9mm conversion barrel and mags if you can find them, Lever Arms was selling them but I don’t know if they still have them in stock.

Looks like campro and Prvi make a bullet for it, I will have to decide if I want to pull them down and press those in.

Might be a pita to pull and reload new bullets if you have steel cases with the three crimp dimples. Not to mention you still have corrosive primers to deal with afterwards. Personally if it was me I’d buy whatever the cheapest brass cased non steel core ammo I could get and keep my brass after the first firing, then pull bullets and powder and reload from there on. You can get new starline brass for 7.62x25 as well.

Kind of a lot of work just to shoot a TT33, fun gun but is a hassle with a no steel core policy at your range. How much steel core did you buy?

There is no 7.62x25 surplus ammo that has no steel in its bullet construction.
Even if its led core it also has steel jacket then copper jacket. Most of the time its just copper washed steel jacket. Even new production ammo from China which was imported
in 2011 was constructed as surplus ammo with steel components to reduce cost.

PPU, SB and I think Fiocchi make ammo with no steel bullets. Sell surplus and buy that stuff. Or reload is the only other way.

Last I checked Lever Arms still had the magazine's, but not the barrels. You could get full parts kit in 9mm from marstar but with no magazine at almost $500

The Lever Arms package came up in an earlier thread. I doddled a bit too much and missed out on purchasing this. I've been checking periodically since but have not seen them come for sale again.

I'm so glad I jumped onto the barrels when they were reasonably cheap. Now the 2 I have are for the future when 7.62x25 gets harder to find. The amount everyone is charging for pistol parts is getting just a bit crazy.

Can't you take a saw & slice a lead core, steel jacketed projectile in half to bring along & show a reasonable range officer that it isn't actually steel core, or are you dealing with a bunch of stubborn know-it-all fudds?

give them a call, they sometimes pull stuff off the webstore, or dont list it to prevent online purchasing/ making it locally available, they do that with ammo a lot too.

I feel like they probably didn't since they jacked the price up around when the pistol freeze came into place. Gotta make money right but it never hurts to ask. Definitely liked the store the one time I managed to get into it on a visit to Vancouver.

^^^The one with the two mags is the better of the two but way to expensive, it is a drop in barrel swap in Chicom and Russian Tokarev’s. You can load 9mm into x25 mags and they feed fairly reliable, Lever does still have the 9mm mags with the spacer and baseplate though.

As much as I like the x25 round it’s nice to be able to shoot something easy to find or that I already load for that’s non corrosive and has no steel core/steel jackets that prevent you from shooting it indoors.
