Just bought my first pistol,a Nork Tok with 7.62 X25 and 9mm barrels. I was expecting the 7.62 x25 to have a lot more go in it than it does,. I have some Nork ammo and some Czech Sellier and Bellot, there is not much to choose between them, quite dissapointing really. Is there anything better around ? I was expecting a big band complete with a fireball but all I have is squibs.
I loaded some 9mm with cast bullets over 5 grns of bullseye, there is more go in them than the tokarev round.

PS, I can't hit a thing with it but I'm hoping that will improve with practise. :)

So you've got S&B Czech stuff? Is it stamped BXN 52 or BXN 53? I have BXN 53 stuff and it's got a LOT of go.

Just so you know, 7.62x25mm ammunition is notorious for being armor piercing, because it's such a high velocity round.

Maybe you're not shooting the old surplus stuff?

It's just stamped S&B 7.62 x 25, carboard boxes with 50 in each. New stuff I would imagine. The main reason I bought this pistol is that from what I read here it sounded like a lot of fun, but I guess that's with the right ammo. Were did you get your BXN 53 ammo ?

I think you can get some crates of 7.62x25mm stuff from Marstar...it's marked BXN 53 and is super powerful. I cannot shoot more than about 100-150 rounds out of my CZ-52 in one day as the jump from the gun wears me out by then.

To give you some perspective, I have shot 200 rounds of 8mm Mauser in an afternoon and not had any problems.

7.62x25mm Czech surplus actually has more stopping power than .45ACP. I won't bother going to find the numbers, but if someone challenges me on it, I will.

I ve shot about 25 boxes so far from the 2 crates I got from Marstar, Its supposed to be corrosive? I left it for 3 or four days without cleaning and there was no rust etc,Surprisingly clean! . The stuff I got was brass cased not laquer coated steel cased.

OK I'll bite ;), I think you mean more muzzle energy, since there is no such thing as stopping power.

Be careful using the Czech surplus ammo in a Norinco Tokarev. They were not designed to handle pressures that high and internal parts breakage can occur. I've never heard of one blowing up but breaking parts is never fun, just means your piece is out of action until you can find spares.

My tokarev handled that stuff fine. It's important that you keep the gun clean though, or else it could have a build up of the dirt in the chamber which can cause a round to get stuck in there. No other way to get it out than to disassemble the gun and pound the casing out.

Some folks say the Czech ammo actually isn't high pressure.

And I have never seen proof that the Tokarev is weaker than the CZ-52. Roller lock doesn't mean stronger.

In fact it's quite the contrary. The Tokarev is "strong as bull". I have one that digests hot loaded 9mm Super. Look at the mass of metal around the chamber - there's more metal there than on my S&W 686 in 357 Mag.

The CZ-52 is a much weaker design. The way the barrel is milled under the chamber leaves metal no thicker than a quarter. The hysteria about using the hot Czech ammo goes back to a single source who claims damage from it, but with a CZ-52, not a Tokarev.

Yeah, I saw the pictures too, but I think they referred to a batch of really hot Bulgarian Sub ammo that was shot in CZ-52s.

I'll see if I can find the site.
