prompted by the upper for sale in the EE i did some research on these since i have never seen them before. turns out there are pretty common in the states, my main question is why dont we seen them here? ammo is half the price of .223 and just as useful for paper at carbine ranges. is it just a fact of "i cant shoot corrosive ammo through my 2000$ gun"?

side question: what type of lower/mags ect do you need to use these? i know nothing of ars but this and a 9mm upper would be nice

they never really caught on down there because of the mag jamming issues. the ar magwell design contacts the front of the mag too far down for the mag to be properly curved in relation to the cartridge stack.. cant get enough 'banana' effect. for us its not a problem w/ 5 rnd max. DPMS lists a 10 round mag that looks like it would feed ok. just have to pin it to 5 rnds.

you can definitely shoot corrosive ammo in an ar.. now would you want to? well lots of meticulous cleaning afterward on that $2000 gun's gas tube and bolt carrier group etc. there is non corrosive available if you look around for it. $14 and up per 20 rnd box. not as economical as milsurp but thats the trade off.

from time to time there is caselot non corrosive available.. but not too often lately.

hope this helps

i dont think there's many who disassemble and clean the gas tube and bolt carrier group after every time shooting..i'm talking 50-100 rounds.

w/ corrosive you need to do it within a couple days if not same day.
