7.62 X 39 Steel Case Litter

Fudds do NOT rule. Volunteers rule. Fudds have been the main reason I don't volunteer at SPFG anymore.

Fudds who feel necessary to tell you that they think your AR should be banned because it sends "the wrong message to the public". Fudds who go on a 15 minute rant why their kit is superior to your kit. Fudds who look down on handguns and go on a rant why the mere thought of reinstututing handgun hunting "makes us look like idiots" and "handguns are ineffective weapons". Each of these is a true encounter.

Brass gets picked up because its expensive. I've seen the brass chickens that show up at SPFG and sift through the dirt. And good on them. But I don't see the complaining about brass being left.

Make it easier for the steel shuckers to pick their mess up. As mentioned, a rolling magnet would be the ticket and make things easier for everyone.

The high rates of fire arguement makes me angry. What is the difference between a line full of guys all shooting their 300 Win Mags and one guy rapid firing an SKS? Nothing, and in fact that's in favor of the SKS.

That some enjoy shooting one shot at a time and waiting an hour, great. But understand some enjoy shooting rapid too. I enjoy both sides of the fence, the main thing is people are out shooting. I would find it comical that others get bent out of shape if I didn't detest the attitude that comes with that opinion - from both the slow fire and rapid fire guys.

SPFG is always playing the whipped puppy and so scared what the neighbours think. That they finally are building a defense fund, that's good. Regardless if they went "all slow fire", they are still going to end up in a fight with the neighbours at some point. As pointed out above, are no "large calibers" are next? Shotgun trap on Sundays banned?

That they aren't joining together with the other ranges to form a united front, or simply on their own fighting the issues like having to install the useless ground baffling they want more money for, is further disappointing.

As much as I like the facility, and it is a fantastic facility, I can tell you if they go so far as to institute a "no rapid fire" policy, I'll happily turn in my membership card at a meeting, and never be back.

What did it for me is the "no guest shooting" rule. Makes it kind of hard to bring new people to try our sport.

There is a big sign at my range which says that "all shell casings must be picked up".

Since I don't shoot any "shells" I figure its fine to leave my steel cartridge cases all over the damn place.

I do feel bad when I arrive and find that they have all been swept up by another club member. Then I get over it and shoot some more...

Oh well, I guess if they don't like it they can vote me out... :D

The club I belong to banned steel cased ammo. No real reason given why.I left a couple hundred on the ground in the last year. Also picked up a couple thousand while at the big spring cleanup.Club pres was there, didn't really seem to give a crap about the subject, kinda a Fudd in his own right.Only cares about his own dicipline, small bore rifle shooting.Heck of a nice guy, don't get me wrong, but just not into talking specifically about why the steel cased was gonzo.

I heard from another guy who is up in the club exec that when our recent revamp of the rules came about, the ban went through in part because "many other clubs are doing it".Also because we have a dip who bought land beside our range and built a house 100m behind the firing line, on the other side of the fence.Oh, it's behind the line now, after the direction of fire was reversed.....anyway, other part of "reasoning" the ban into place was to discourage "rapid fire" so as not to disturb said neighbor dip. Also, steel cases on the ground. At a pistol/ rifle range?Stupid. I certainly let my thoughts be known to the club execs, but to no point.

It's silly, so no one picks up their brass. Not a big deal. Someone brings a magnet periodically.(Me)And there is plenty of .22,pistola brass .223 etc. laying about. Big freaking deal. The steel is the easiest to deal with.

At my range, all steel core ammo is banned due to it being a indoor pistol calibre only range. Regarding clean up, as long as you sweep up the area and put the shells infront of the firing line your good to go, as the range is a public one with rental guns and unlicensed shooters.

I obviously pick up my shells, except the rim fires.. Last time i was there this guy had the balls to pick up my shells when he had known i wanted to keep mine. It was obvious they were mine as he was shooting winchester white box that had bulges and i was shooting blazer's

well, the jokes on him as the blazers use small primers!

We collect all of it and the left behind stripper clips to. We put it in 5 gallon buckets and send it to a scrap dealer after it has built up enough. That way turns little cash for the range. We do the same for 22 and other not desired brass.

wow, a shooting range with brass and steel cases on the ground!!! wait it the anti's see all this!!!

it is a RANGE!! how is this worse than gravel? does it affect you shooting? you can't sleep at night?

fudd's get bent because they have time to get bent..

I rapid fire and leave my steel because i can pop by any time with my magnet... although someone beat me to it a few weeks ago.

Fudds hate ANY and ALL CHANGE.. unless its a new "old crotchety guy" they can fudd with.

its ok... soon they will be back to ashes.. i will outlive them.. their kids will sell me their guns for a nice fat discount... and i will laugh...

Why???

because my kids WILL shoot and spend time with me... My kids will keep my guns or at least know their value... My legacy WILL be friends made... not everyone else be damned.

change sucks... i know...
I'm sorry for f*cking up YOUR day.

Seriously, how is 22 brass ok then? Everyone squaking about steel hasn't addressed that? If it's ok for 22 or shotgun hulls to be left it makes no sence to complain about anything else. And if your club doesn't have a means of cleaning up after yourself with like a broom and magnet, then take it up with your club. Memberships pay for facilities no? That should be part of it. I'm not saying hire a cleaning crew but provide members the means to maintain the grounds. If not, your club obviously doesn't care so why should the members

There's a lovely amount of holier-than-thou in this thread on both sides. Some ranges like to be clean, I like those kinds of ranges and appreciate a sharp range that doesn't look like a gravel pit frequented by the inconsiderate. I've shot cases of x39 too, but have never been too lazy to clean it up. Unfortunately, it's often the case at my ranges where I'll see a guy, often young (I'm in my 20's still too- no geezer here) pop off a couple hundred rounds at nothing in particular, often used targets and dirt clods they seem to have a hard time hitting, and promptly jump in their truck and leave no clean up. At the Fort Nelson range, one of these asshats destroyed the 25 yard .22 silhouette setup meant for the kids. It was a nice thing that silhouette setup and it was ruined by an idiot for what, something to blast surplus at? I don't care what speed you shoot, just don't make a mess you can't fix (or are unwilling to) before you leave!

Are all surplus shooters idiots? Nope, I shoot lots too, and many others in this tread I'd like to think of as responsible, courteous shooters. Unfortunately the guys just out to 'make some noise and blow off steam' do tend to gravitate to the SKS and 858 for the obvious reasons. Painting many with a broad stroke, maybe, but sadly accurate too often.

The Fudds have infected one range after another with their nonsense. "Rapid" fire rules, no loaded mag rules, no steel casing. It's almost like they are trying to take the fun out of it and make everyone give up shooting.

Unless you shoot a bolt action and hmm and haw and bulls**t for 5 minutes between every shot. Then you are OK with them.

Remember, deal with the fools. Don't ban everyone from having a good time. FFS!

but wonder why they leave the winter accumulation for weeks after the spring melt has exposed them?
Meh, who cares.... The area forward of the line of fire is gravel. The way I see it is casings have pretty much the same consistency as gavel/rocks, so, who cares? Walk on em. Walk over em. Stand on em. Look at them.

Its a range, not a beauty boutique.
