7.62 x 39MM 127GR FMJ

ok i'm not a rifle guy...i actually know almost nothing of rifle calibers etc. i hope this doesn't sound stupid...does 7.62 x 39MM 127GR FMJ fit a civilian308 rifle?

That just about says it.
However, to make it real clear, YES a 7.62X39mm round WILL fit in a .308. Almost halfway down the chamber.
You cannot fire it however because the firing pin will not reach the primer. So, if you are asking the question...can I fire a 7.62x39mm in my .308 (approx 7.62x51mm), then the answer is more than likely NO!

SKS, CZ-858, VZ-58, JW-103, Ruger Mini-30 will all take the ammo. You can find an SKS for under $200.

7.62mm is the nominal bullet/bore diameter. The 'x 39' is the case length in mm's.

If you have 3000 rounds of x39's I'd just buy an SKS if i were you. Cheap, fun to shoot, good gun to practice with.

3000 rounds of anything is hardly useless. 7.62X39 is a popular round that you should have no problem selling. If you are intent on .308 or 7.62X51, you should be able to find someone to trade you. Five 7.62X39 per one 7.62X51 would be reasonable, assuming ball ammo and the 7.62X51 is non-corrosive, of course, and that the 7.62X39 is.
Cheer up, you're not stuck with "useless ammo" by a long shot.

i'm obviously not a rifle guy, but i picked up a hkm770, and a friend of mine who was an engineer in the forces, told me to get 7,62 x 39 it will work and is cheap...so i did, obviously, our military doesn't train that well in mil cals; and i appreciate all the comments about my mistake...i'll bet i'm not the first and won't be the last to make it, i knew the error as soon as i opened the crates. to use up my useless ammo i'm ordering a robinson arms xcr in 7.62 x 39...is that a good choice or am i jumping the "gun" again? .... please hold your jeers i'm a newb in this category and am not really feeling that welcome in it... but if you'd like to discuss vintage Am. side by sides or english shotguns that's more my thing.

Suspect you or he mixed up the end number.

You can never go wrong with another gun and lots of ammo to shoot in it!

You can get an SKS cheaper than an XCR but both are nice.
