Hello all,

I have looked at Finnish M-27 and M-39's for a while, and occasionally come across this "7.62 X 53R" nomenclature. I understand the bores were often made to much tighter tolerances, that being not .311 but .31095 or so I've read. Is this 7.62 X 53R Finnish merely a misstype, as I've seen it in a couple places. I understand the latter part is the case length, the for part the diameter, so would it not be more appropriate to say "7.61 X 54R"?

If anyone can straighten me out on this one, it's much appreciated.

thats what the finns called thier 7.62x54R only for some reason they use 53 instead of 54, its the exact same thing as the 7.62x54R russian round ...its no difrent then the 7.62x25 or .30 mauser...the same and interchangable aside from the fact the russin rounds a bit hotter.

A matter of rounding up the nominal 53.5 case length.

Before this devolves into a wikipedia says this and the CIP says that debate, I have fired many rounds of D-166 in ordinary 91/30s and Type L ball in Finn 27s & 39s and neither I nor rifles are the worse for wear.
