Hi all,

Someone at work just informed me that I can use 7.62x54r in my 30-06 bolt action Winchester 670. I don't believe him, but before I rebuttal him, I thought that I would ask first here.

Regards,

lol good one.

Now that you are asking the question OP, you'll see that bullet diameter is one thing, but powder charge, case pressure, and case length, as other things, are different. I dig the IV8888 youtube channel. Eric there is a nice guy and its nice watching his shows.
He just posted a .30-ish cal video...this is good to watch for most people!

It's called firearms facts: .30 Cal explained. He and ray compare the different types of ammo that might share the same (or close) projectile diameter, but NOT interchangeable at all.

4 Min 17 sec for the 30-06,

So when did 7.62X63mm ( 3006 ) become 7.62x 54R?? ( Almost a 11mm difference in length ) Also how does a rim cartage fit in a chamber of a regular cartage.

Your co worker an idiot and should be called out.

Actually, the rimmed cartridge came first, making it the "regular" cartridge. The rimless cartridge, albeit a better design, came later. So, I'm not sure what you point is. The fact is, that, technically, you can easily fit a 7.62x54mmR cartridge in the "regular" chamber of a .30-378 Weatherby Magnum. Just sayin'.
but, yes, "Co-worker is idiot and should be shot with pride of Motherland cartridge from amazing Nagant rifle."

Your coworker is probably the same breed of tavern commandos who believes that when the Russians chose the 7.62x39 cartridge for the AK47, they did it so they could use their own ammo in battlefield pickup 7.62x51 NATO rifles.

I was basically saying since I cannot explain stuff the best, the cartage are different, ones rimed and ones another and that they are different in lengths as well. Man I hate when people say Just sayin, its sounds so much like a teenage kid that smacking her lips being snotty.

I hear a lot of superlative negatives here, but has anyone actually tried this...........I know there are some minor differences, but really, has anyone actually tried to see if it will fit in an 06 chamber?:p:p................I suspect the guy actually meant that one could fire the X54R in a 303 chamber...........easy confusion...........one of them 30 cal military type cartridges.
