Curious, what 7.62 x 54 cal rifles are legal in Canada?

Im aware of the Mosin–Nagant ....not my style.

The SVT-40 looks ok but ive heard it isnt that (relatively) accurate vs a Dragunov or M14.

Just these 2 we can get in Canada? The one I really want is illegal...its just a darn hunting rifle but its illegal: Dragunov SVD

Technically there is no reason I can see that a semi auto version of the RPD isn't allowed. As it is not mentioned by name in the prohib list, nor is it a variant of the AK.

That would be one mean looking deer/moose gun. :D

The RPD is a 7.62x39mm.

A Baikal single shot in 54r is a nice little rifle tho.

I so wish the VZ-59 would have come in...

At one time, there was the Berkut, a very beautifully made hunting semi-auto. I think EOS had one.
There is a new version of it but I doubt it being imported in Canada at this moment.
It is made by Ishevsk.
PP.

I love my SVT 40 and it has fine accuracy for a milsurp semi auto.
And the nagant? i shot a mule deer buck at 300 yards with iron sights a few years back.
i have been testing out some 308 180 grain bullets in it but have a shortage of brass to get any serious data on paper.

you can get Valmet rifle M78 or M88 :) expensive but damn nice one

Answering some questions.

why 7.62x54 = cheap mill sup ammo, hits like a 30-06 (so ive heard)

on accuracy = Total production of the SVT-38/40 was 5,772,085 rifles, of which 51,710 were the SVT-40 sniper variant.[2][1]

In service, SVTs frequently suffered from vertical shot dispersion. For a sniper rifle, this was unacceptable, and production of the specialized sniper variant of the SVT was terminated in 1942. At the same time, the milling of scope rails in the receivers of standard SVT rifles was also discontinued.

Ill likely get a M14 and put a scope on it, but a buck a shot hurts. I sooo wish I could have the SVD DRAGUNOV SNIPER! Damn its "ak 47 action"!

Nah, keep it in 7.62x39, you could then still use the 100 round belt and the cheap Czech surplus. :D

We should see if the fine folks at Norinco could send us some semi only ones, that would be a blast!
