7.62 x39 mm ammo

Just picked up a crate of this ammo...just wondering if it is corrosive or non corrosive..i am pretty sure it is corosive but what with the color? they are a gold colour and not green surplus color..anyway just wondering what otjer thought thanks.

Not all surplus cases are steel. Some of it is brass. i have brass cases surplus from Yugoslavia and Romania.

But it is all corrosive.

But your cases are 'copper-washed" steel.

From your pic it looks like Chinese. Guaranteed not to be 1945 production.

What does the headstamp say?

On another note the can that my ammo came in looked identical to your seconnd picture

i would take a guess that 70 is the year of production but i cant find 19 anywhere

but overall id say corrosive

Almost everything surplus ammo before 1980 is corrosive. Non-corrosive ammo is 3 times the price, so an extra 2 minutes of cleaning well justifies the cost savings.

Yes, corrosive.

Not a "19" but "61". Chinese Factory 61, made in 1970.

Like this, but 70 instead of 69.

I have some of that ammo. Factory 61 china definetly corrosive! Steele core copper washed case.
