Some more pics.
Yes the mag is modified with a brass insert at the back to accommodate the shorter 7.62 round, holds 10 and loads, ejects perfectly. A lot of time to fit a solder in place. The front band was also modified to have the sling attach to the side. The band holding the rear grip was perfectly inlet into the butt. An extra loop was attached the receiver ring, not sure why. A metal piece was also attached to the receiver to hold the PHC sight arm in place, maybe for quick adjustment so not to look at the distance scale?. All the metal parts have a military grade parkerized finish after all metal work was complete, not sure how bubba was able to do that. The rifle is also professionally bedded properly. I have another DCRA that was used in the 1967 Palma match, all 66 of those rifles were bedded exactly the same to make it even for all shooters, this rifle is done exactly the same, with the same bedding material and done in the same location and the same wooden dowels into the receiver. The barrel is a DCRA with maple leaf #1038, the bolt and receiver have no numbers, looks like new parts.
I bought an sold about 30-40 DCRA rifles in the last 30 years, a lot to compare to, this one looks like a professional armourer worked on it. I seen a lot of amateur crap over the years.
The DCRA 7.62 program was unique, you could send in your barrel action and have in converted to 7.62 and nothing else, you would have to add wood etc, or you could order a complete rifle from a long list of extras, you could have a choice of wood with a water proof finish, you could have a blue, parkerized, or high polish blue, you could order PH sights and yes, you could get sterling 7.62 mags installed. I have an example of one I purchased from the original owner who bought it from Canadian arsenals. Sadly, most of the people involved are now passed on with most of the info lost.
I have been selling off some of the collection, but this one I kept over the years, it was just so unique, I bought it from a long time collector, who had it over 30 years. I put it up for sale, just see if get any interest in it.
