I want to play with some of my milsurp ammo. I would like to substitute the bullet for a HP and I want to try some ammo with a reduced powder charge.

With rifle ammo it is easy to run the loaded round up into the press and grab the bullet on top with a pair of pliers. The pistol round it too short for that.

I want to play with several hundred rounds, so a kinetic is not the answer. Any suggestions?

We use 7.62 X 39 bullets in 303 br for coyote loads and the kinetic bullet puller didn't work worth squat.
Easiest way was to insert the bullet in a burnt out 8mm k98 bore and torque sideways on the case. Loosened it up really good.
That probably won't work for 7.62 X 25 as the bullet is short and round. Hopefully it's not in as tight as the M43 rounds anyhow.
Good luck.

it will destroy the bullet, but drilling a hole in it (parallel to the base of the bullet) then twisting it around should get it out.

otherwise i would just say get some brass and start fresh.

Blush. Face palm.

Yes, the RCBS collet puller works like a charm. I have one in one of the stations of my turret press. The 308 collet seems to work just fine.

First bullet pulled is 308". Each case has 10.1 gr of a flake powder.

The steel core is very difficult to pull, even if I break the seal first. The lead core in the brass cases pulls easy peasy.

Steel core bullets are longer. It takes more steel to make the weight than with lead core.

Steel = 0.640"
Lead = 0.545"

Now I will try reloading them with a reduced charge of only 7 gr and see if the gun cycles and how accuracy looks.

Report: 7 gr was accurate, but only ran the slide 50% of the time. 8 gr should be the effective reduced charge.

The Hornady Lever action collet puller is extremely fast and will pull any bullet without damage. The RCBS is similar but slow as you have to twist the t bar to tighten and release.
