Hi,

Searching for firearms (non-restricted) that shoot 7.62x25. Any ideas of models that are avaiable in Canada ?

Thanks everyone,

MapleSpartan

Why non-restricted?

To use cheap surplus ammo most likely...

Was/is 7.62x25 guns more common elsewhere? Seems all we've got is tokarevs and p762... i want to say ppsh was in 7.62x25, but they're all full auto?...

Does anyone anywhere make something that COULD fit the bill of NR 7.62X25 rifle?

Lots of them.

Thanks mate ! This is exactly the kind of info im looking for !!!

If you have any other ideas to shoot 7.62x25 in non-restricted please feel free to share your knowledge..

A fellow CGNr sent me a cartridge adapter for 7.62x54R to 25. They must be available.

So I could put 7.62x25 in my Mosin Nagant ?????? what would happen in my SVT-40? (crossing the streams......omg don't cross the streams)

Where do I get one of these magic tools and how much As* do I have to sell to get one?

Juster sent a link few comments ago. Here's again : ht tps://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/762x25-rifle-chamber-insert?a=650814

Any .311 bore barrel could be fitted to a receiver and chambered in that. Ask a Smith.

Might be a fun mod for a shout-out .32-20 lever gun.

I shoot the 7.62x25 through a .308 bore on a regular basis. We aren't talking about a high pressure cartridge here. The accuracy is just fine and fouling isn't an issue.

I shoot these rounds out of a Model 1907 semi auto Winchester that had a terrible bore so I rebarreled it with a take off Shilen Match Grade with a 1-14 twist rate.

The only issue I had was the "D" type homemade reamer was useless after turning one chamber. Those darn Shilen stainless barrels can be hard but most likely I didn't do my job properly hardening the reamer. Oh well it did the job.

The Chinese converted lots of captured US M1 Carbines to 7.62x25 as well. When Lever Arms had them in stock I was lucky enough to be in Vancouver at the time and had a chance to look at a few. They were IMHO in FAIR condition only. All of them retained their original barrels. That got me going so I took an old M1 Carbine barrel out of the bin and borrowed a reamer. There weren't any issues. The magazine would only hold 3 rounds but even though the rim diameter was larger they fed well. The bolt face had to be opened up and the extractor ground to fit but none of the parts were collector grade or hard to find.

The rifle worked well and shot well. At least as accurate as any other M1 Carbine. That carbine is still shooting well but went on to other people. I have no idea where it is presently. Whoever has it, I hope they are cleaning out that gas piston because that surplus stuff is corrosive.

I have really been thinking about converting a Spanish Destroyer that has a rusty bore. I picked it up at a gun show for a reasonable price and I have a barrel that would work sooooooooooooooo.

Is the 7.62x25 a 311 cal, or 308? Wiki says 308 cal, but i dunno if that's right.

The bullet diameter of the 7.62x25 is .310. In my experience, in my rifles it poses no issues. Think about it for a second. This isn't a cartridge that creates high pressures. Admittedly it develops high pressure for its cartridge class but when you're dealing with strong rifle actions the slight pressure rise is inconsequential.

Back in the day when many of the firearms chambered for this cartridge were manufactured I'm willing to bet the off the line manufacturing tolerances were within .002 in. or more.

I was more thinking that a .308 bullet from a .311 to .314+ bore would provide poor accuracy and the novelty of the whole idea would wear off mighty fast.

OP, I looked at the reviews of the insert that was posted, and the vast majority of them say its more hassle than its worth. If you are willing to put some time and effort into polishing the insert so the 7.62x25 cases dont get stuck then they're not terrible seems to be the general opinion.

I would love a cheap little 7.62x25 rifle (bolt, semi, even a break action) for plinking, but the hassle of an insert wouldn't be nearly as much fun. (At that point, I'd probably just want to shoot my 303 or 7.62x54r rifle).... With the break action comment, anyone making shotgun adapters for this cal?

Bullet diameter of the 7.62 X 25 TOK is .307 -.308. This is HP, 85 gr. HP, both Russian & Czech. Bullet dia of 7.62 X 39 is .310 -.311. Not sure about 7.62 X 54R, as I don't have any of these lying around. I have mic'd a number of these, and can confirm that the wiki info (and others) is correct about 7.62 X 25 bullet diameter.

I have pulled the TOK bullets and reloaded into .30 carbine brass & shot my M1 carbines with them. A little faster, and with a steel core. Same accuracy as std .30 carbine out to 100 yds.

I think the confusion is because all Russian "7.62" is assumed to be the same bullet dia & rifle bore.

If you are measuring these, ensure you use a quality micrometer (Starrett or Mitutoyo), not a cheapy

If you do a bit of shopping around you can pick up a Spanish Destroyer with a crappy bore and have it relined with an insert chambered in 7.62x25 around the $500 mark. The bolt face won't have to be opened, the extractor is fine as is and the mag is good to go. Tradex had some spare mags for cheap as well. I modified my mag well to accept Tokarev mags without any issues. The big thing is setting aside the time to do it right. Nothing difficult about this conversion.

Sorry, are you saying I can get a shot out destroyer, AND reline it for like $500? 'cause thats a pretty reasonable deal... that is actually something that is probably worth looking into.
