Anyone loaded up x39 rounds with .308" boolets? I picked up some tracers and wanted to load up a few for my cz858. For anyone who has tried how was the accuracy? I'd be happy with MOP (minute of pumpkin) :p

Use the same data for bullet weight in .308 as .310..........my son's SKS shoots both diameters well. With 150gr .311 we use 21gr IMR 4198 and it rips one jagged hole at 50 yards..............Harold

I have a Ruger Hawkeye in 7.62X39.
I shoot .308 150gr. hornady flat based spire points. "interlock" I believe.
They shoot great!
I normally get 1.25" or better groups at 100.

With cast boolits, I am shooting the Lyman 311291 (170gr) round Nose, gas checked bullet.
Sized to .310".

Lyman moly lube

So far I have tried a harder alloy (11-12BNH).

I have tried trailboss, IMR SR4759.
The IMR SR4759 shoots into 1.5" or less at 100yds consistantly.
If my memory serves me correctly, I think my velocities were in the 1650-1750fps range.
I seated my bullets so that I had very "slight" ingraving into the rifling as I closed the bolt.
If you try shooting cast boolets, donot forget to just slightly bell the case mouth so that the bullet doesnt get damaged (shave lead off the side of a missaligned bullet)when seating th bullet.

If you are shooting a SKS, you might want to size the bullets to .311-.312 for cast boolit shooting.

I hope this was what you were looking for.
Good luck and have fun!

You should get waaay better than minute of pumpkin. I once loaded 220gn Sierras in mine with some Unique behind it. Gave me just under 1000fps and was dead accurate at 50yds.

I would follow the 150gr recipes at http://###.hodgdon.com/basic-manual-inquiry.html

I have a pound of 4895 and lots of WC735 to play with here for 147gr .308 trace but limited 7.62x39 brass... I think on the .308 tracer the cannalure will be inside the neck by the time it will fit into my M4 mags, doubt the factory SKS sights will do much good as its hard to match velocity of a lighter bullet given available data... Probably will get it within 4" of surplus x39 tho....

I really need a chrony :-/
