7.62x39 ammo shortage

Epps still had some crates of the czech stuff the last time I was in there $179, I think. The U.S. State department won't let anything to be exported to Canada in that caliber or anything that says AK or SKS, or anything with .50 cal. (i.e. .50 BMG, .50 AE, bullets, brass, or loaded ammo) so I'm told. They are afraid of it being used on them in the war in Iraq or something stupid like that. Like there is any shortage of this stuff coming from Russia or southern asia.:slap:

I agree , its so silly that they wont let that stuff be shipped here .
As if people here are gonna go through the troube of shipping boxes of ammo to Iraq!

I could understand if they were worried about high quality 7.62/54 rounds for Snipers with PSK's and SVD's. Right now the insurgent snipers probably only have crappy surplus so good sniper ammo would probably be worth the trouble to import it.

Otherr rrumourrs to add

Heard the czechs are gonna vastly increase the price of their surplus , since they sold so much it aint surplus anymore.
Anyone heard of stricter Kanadian guidelines on corrosive ammo import - as in banned ?

$14!!!!!!!!!!!!! F that! its plinking ammo am not going to spend more then $10 for 7.62 russian unless it can group under 2" at 100m "which it cant"
They can charge what they want but am not buying it.

I wonder what has the US State Department so riled up on 7.62 x 39, 5.56 and 7.62 NATO and various other items?

Do you think its the coming election or some other factor. It just doesn't make sense.

Bought a case the other day at Island Outfitters, they had quite a few cases sitting around. Apparently they were having trouble selling the ammo as China didn't want to ship any SKS rifles during the Olympics.

What's I/O selling cases for?

Just called MilARM in Edmonton - they are well-stocked with 7.62x39.

Ya that's cause it's all corrosive. And even though they dropped their price a bit it's still to high. Heres a tip... Take your woman to the U.S. for a day or weekend getaway, hit cabelas, get ammo, get nookie! win - win situation! (with the appropriate paperwork of course)

Canadian import rules allow to import up to 5000rd, BUT .. US export law doesn't allow exporting even a single round without appropriate paperwork. Its an American law, not a Canadian law.

There is like a 1000 threads on this, do a search, and stop giving out incorrect info.

McBain - I think that's one of the best ideas I've heard in quite some time...I'm sure the Frau will be appreciative, too.

But really, it's all about the ammo. ;)
