7.62x39 AR Parts?

I have seen bolts and barrel listed on Fabsport's website within the last year, Wolverine has the 7.62x39 C-Product short mags in stock.
 
I did a lot of research with this project in mind. I dropped it for an XCR.

Anyway, the bolt that won't break is the one from LMT with the "lobster tail" extractor. Questar had one in stock.

I looked a few place for this custom barrel:
AR-15 barrel, 7.62x39, 11", M4 ramp, medium contour with carbine gas port. I intended to install it on a Spike's Tactical/Adam's Arms Ultimate Piston Conversion.
I chose ATRS that offered a custom stainless Lilja barrel, 575$ including the assembly of the upper (for head-space and testing).
 
To add to the original post, I'm also wondering about 5.45x39 ammo in an AR. Apparently it is mega cheap in the states. Even S&W makes a M&P15 in that caliber. How come no one is importing this ammo?

With the ever growing prices of 5.56mm or .223 ammo, I need a viable alternative. I would like the 7.62x39 more if someone made a mag with the same dimensions as a standard 30 rnd 5.56 mag.
 
Questar has some 7.62x39 LMT enhanced bolts that they brought in after I inquired about their availability. I needed this item for a Grendel build which is going very slowly. These are a bit pricey at $239 for the bolt alone.

Neat but I'd rather build it with common AR components. I'll stick with the DI gun. I'd like the upper to be as identical to my 5.56 as possible.

All I really need now is a good barrel. I don't need a $500 match barrel. That defeats the purpose of this build. More like a $250-300 factory barrel.

I'm going to assume that you're planning to run surplus x39. If so then skip the DI setup. Controlling the corrosive nature of the residue is a big issue. It would take a lot of extra maint to keep a DI gun running well with surp x39.

Marstar's new rifle looks pretty good. I saw them at SHOT and was quite impressed. I'd be all over it if he could get a 10" barrel.
 
The difference is to rince the corrosive fouling in the gas tube. With a piston you have only 2" of tube to rince instead of about 10".

Most piston kit like Spike/Adam's Arms allow the top rail to be the same height than the receiver rail. It's just that it's not every rail that has enough clearance but you still have the choice of a few quality products.

Like was said you need to clean the gas system after every shoot, you really need to flush out the internals of the rifle after every shoot cause the residue gets everywhere on a DI so anything that isn't stainless or chrome plated will rust fast, like within days. Even without the corrosion issue the ammo is dirty which means the bolt etc will start to gum up much faster. Part of what makes the AR a viable platform is the clean quality ammo NATO countries can afford to feed it.

Its always give and take, often we can't have it all at once :D.
 
Mucky powder residue, even privi which shoots as well as Federal for a 1/4 of the price at deer distances needs a second wipe through after a couple of days. Potatoes seem to grow in those grooves and the first few scrubs never seem to get it all out!
