Good Afternoon fellow Gun Nutz,

I just completed my first AR build in .223 (pictures to come)

But I still have an extra lower sitting around, so now I wish to build another one, but this time in 7.62x39.

Who in Canada sells parts to do this? My google foo seems to lack the searching skills today, so I thought I would ask the most knowlageble forum in Canada.

Thanks for the help

Regards,

762x39 has always been a bit iffy in an AR. The problem is the bolt just doesn't have the room for the larger case head. Sure it CAN be done but lots of people have had cracked and failed bolts as a result. If you want .30 cal performance out of an AR, the 300 Blackout is a much better choice because it uses the standard 556 bolt face and mags.

1000% agree. I love my 300 blackout and once you are stocked up on brass and set up to reload it is incredibly reliable and accurate.

I've also read that the 7.62x39 does not feed very well from AR mags but that may only be in states where they use the full mag length.
Also I would not shoot corrosive ammo in an AR unless you want to be replacing parts regularly, there are small gas passages where it will be very difficult to clean properly like the gas tube and inside the bolt carrier gas key.
Shooting non corrosive to solve those issues won't be as cheap and you would be better off handloading 300BLK. You can load from 110gr to 220gr and run the heavy ones subsonic which even without a suppressor is still a lot quieter than supersonic. Plus with 300Blk you can run a very short barrel and not experience the huge velocity drop below 11 inches like you do with 223.

Interesting, just wanted to go with something different.
But running a piston driven style would cut down on the corrosive issue, just thinking sks and ak.

Thanks,

Dlask did a small run of 7.62 x 39 upper a couple years back, I have one it works fairly well, except the problem with surplus ammo uses really hard primers, so you have to play around with your hammer springs, but that will cause problem if you switch back to a .223 upper.

As with corrosive gases getting into everything? The gas tube is a $10 part easy to replace, BCG is easy enough to just take it out and rinse it in hot water, everything else in an AR is anodized aluminium anyways.

Ok, thats a read for when Im off work, thank you.

Here is a descripition of a bolt i found online:
"Complete replacement bolt is configured with an oversized firing pin to eliminate misfires and hang fires that can occur in 7.62x39-chambered AR-15 rifles, particularly when using imported ammunition with hard primers"

So that part is easy, Heavy hammer spring, Ill talk to Joe.

Barrel?

Thanks,

7.62 or .311 barrel blanks shouldn't be that hard to source out by any gunsmith that can turn a barrel, Just in your area you have two really good sources with either Dlask or Bits and Pieces.

with a extended firing pin you can probably stick to regular hammer spring, if you do need springs Wolff Springs in the US do ship to Canada.

I got PWS piston AR upper which has been very reliable so far. Noticed slightly over-sized feeding ramps and enhanced firing pin as compered to a my LMT
Out of Cz 858, Mini 30 I had owned this is the most accurate rifle in this caliber.

:agree:
The only company that has the 7.62x39mm down pack on the AR platform has to be PWS.

There is a company in the US that makes a 7.62 x 39 upper. It's out of stock ATM but I would love one.
