7.62x39 barrel and bolt?

I think you're on the right track IMR4320. I suggest you get the Windham from Kelly's ASAP... I know they only had a few left, and new stick will be $1200+ given the dollar.

Thats cheap, but way longer then I want as I stated 12-14" maybe but 16" not my cup of tea. Ideally 7-10.5"

Looks like more PSAs inbound...
Anyone spending big money on a 7.62x39 upper to take advantage of cheap, dirty, com-block ammo with marginal accuracy needs to have their headspace checked...but whatever floats yer boat.

Wanting this caliber has nothing to do with saving money on ammo for me, my range does not allow any steel core ammo so basically no surplus. I would be buying expensive brand name virgin brass case ammo, just like I do in all of my other guns.

Its an expansion to my collection and another caliber that is new to me, which means it should stay fun and keep me occupied for a little while at least

I think 300 blk is more suited for you than 7.62X39

Id like to try it, 300 was on my mind for a while but I switched to wanting 7.62x39 more. As I believe it should be more different then 5.56 compared to 300. If I understand correctly 300 is just a cut down and re-sized 5.56 case with a larger projectile and different load. And from what I read the real beauty of that round is really found when shooting suppressed. Also 300 is hard to find, expensive is one thing but if I cant get an ammo easily I dont want it....I am not the kind of person that goes to the range and shoots 50rounds and goes home. Every caliber I have I buy boxs of 1000, if I cant buy it by the 1000 case I dont even buy it

Personally I do not do any long distance shooting yet, I have only been to indoor ranges so far. My range is 25 yards, and so far all my guns are either standard or compact handguns or short barreled rifles. In a normal trip to the range I will shooting minimum 300-700 rounds at about $200-300 ammo cost. This is not a cheap hobby for me, I am not in the stage of trying to save money yet, Im new so I pay alot to shoot new stuff...

Call me crazy but I spend $55 to shoot 3 rounds of 50 BMG, and I paid $90 for 25 rounds of 50 AE, just to try them out in range guns. Yeah its kinda crazy but I really wanted to shoot those iconic calibers and guns, you only live once and it was worth it for me

To be honest at the rate Im going at, I'll eventually have one of each caliber, hard part is deciding which one to get first

The original concept behind 300 blk was to match the CQB performance of a 7.62X39 without the taper casing

Yeah its just scary to not see many options for ammo

They have a lot in stock but no bulk savings $25.95 per 20 box, thats $1,297.50 plus tax and shipping per 1000 rounds

Im a spendy person but thats just a bit over the top, I have the same problem holding me back from buying a 10mm Glock 20

It was actually to come close to performance of 7.62x39 while preserving standard AR magazine capacity and having to switch only as little parts as possible, in case of 300 blk. only swapping the barrel. For performance the 300 blk. can come relatively close to 7.62 but cannot match it due to limited case powder capacity. For the most part it is difficult to match each other's performance because 5.56 and 7.62 have both been designed with fundamentally different mindset considering terminal performance, penetration, accuracy, wind drift, bullet drop, weight and most of all, reliability. Ironically, the closest hybrid in between these two cartridges is the 5.45x39.

Not sure I want to get on another Questar pre order Im going on 6 months for my first try at a Questar preorder

Actually Emailed them to ask if I can use the deposit from that towards the upper

If you shoot regularly, 6 months from now you'll have gone through a couple extractors and be wishing you'd ordered a beefed up bolt. Like Teddy said, the LMT bolts took about a month to get in.

Big Red gives good advice. Get the LMT bolt from Questar. It's one of the best, if not 'the best' AR15 style x39 bolt available.

On a side note, my Windham x39 is running good on it's first 500rds so far. Currently I'm using the WW bolt, but I do have an LMT x39 bolt and spare LMT extractor as backup. I want to see how long the factory WWx39 bolt is going to last.

In case you haven't seen this small thread on x39 bolts:
