7.62x39 bolt action inquiry.

I went out today and shot my Ruger American Ranch.

This was first result was at 100 meters using 123gr Hornady SST hand loads.

I measured the group to be 0.88". 4 shots in the same area, then I got all excited and shlt the bed on #5. This rifle shoots lights out with good ammo.

The next one is a sample with Barnual FMJ. This was shot today as well.

This one was 2" to 2-1/4". It probably could have been better but I was getting cold so I rushed to get the last few rounds down range. It is interesting to see two round ontop of each other, then the others all over the place.

Obviously the best result is from the hand loads, but if a guy were to zero the scope on surplus ammo and just shoot the same lot, I'm sure you could tighten up the group a lot.

With that said there is definitely a variance in powder load with surplus ammo.

Mine shoots the same way with my SST reloads as well. I like this gun so much I went out and bought the 223 model as well and am just starting to work up a load. All in all, I really like these guns.

I had a CZ527. It was a super nice gun. The wood and finish was awesome, however the best feature was the two stage trigger. The magazines were great although they are hard to find now.

My biggest knock was the bolt handle clearance, I even upgraded the bolt handle as I found my hand would always scrape up against the scope.

The CZ600 looks great, but its unfortunate that CZ doesnt offer the 600 Lux in 762x39.

The Ruger American Ranch isnt as fancy of a rifle but is just as accurate and is still a hoot to shoot.

It is too bad they stopped making the 527..

You mean the single set trigger, and yes it is sweet. Mine is currently an iron sights only affair, but if I were to "scope" it, I'll probably opt for a Minox red dot. The sights are excellent and at the ranges I use it for, a scope would just be a cumbersome paper weight.
