Anyone know why most companies don't make their centrefire rifles in 7.62x39? I feel something affordable like a Savage Axis in 7.62x39 would be a pretty big hit. Especially because they are hard to find...Norinco jw-103's are all but extinct, cz527's are fairly rare and expensive...Just wish there was anither food option out there.

The reason is because a .308 can also be had in a compact package and its more versatile. That said, a CZ 527 in 7.62X39 isn't particularly hard to find (check with Profit River) and its reasonably priced for what you get. Additionally, the CZs are chambered to CIP specifications rather than SAMMI, so milspec ammo cycles and functions without a problem, where it might not in a North American made rifle. If you want a micro bolt action in 7.62X39, it would be tough to find a better candidate without spending much more. If this rifle was made in North America it would break $2K. Save your nickles or you can wait for a used one to show up; you might see a used one at Epps from time to time.

I just had a look at the Zastava site, and the M-85 Full Stock is a nice looking rifle, if you can get past the hooked pistol grip, but the stock on the standard rifle leaves something to be desired. I don't have much experience with these rifles, but if the 9.3X62 I shot last winter is any measure, they shoot accurately. While my preference is the CZ, a Zastava represents good dollar value IMHO.

keep in mind that the savage is a .308 bore unlike the .311 bore that is needed to match the common surplus ammo that is cheap to shoot.

I don't understand why Marstar or whoever doesn't get on norinco to put together another batch of their 7.62 x 39 bolt action rifles. I know they were not amazing quality but with the huge numbers of SKS owners I'm sure they would be a big seller. What were they $225? Seems like a no brainer purchase for anyone who has a crate of 7.62 x39. Which is probably 80% of the members on CGN. I'm personally just not interested in the $800+ rifle options for this ammo either.

Cleanup is 4x as fast in a bolt action and the accuracy was excellent.
Don't fear corrosive, just clean yer gun, like infantry for the last 100 years or so.

Ruger makes the Compact Hawkeye in 7.62X39.
I love mine!

I Super light and short! Shoots .308 diameter, Sierra 150 flat base bullets very well!
It also shoots my 200 grain Lyman 311299 cast bullets very well!

That's the one I missed out on at a gun show. I hummed and hawed too long! It was a beauty. If I see another one, she's gonna be mine.
