I just bought but waiting for a Zastava bolt M85 7.62x39 and I'm looking for brass to start collecting.
The options I see at SFRC which is local to me are PPU, S & B, PMC and MFS for cheap shooting now.
Kind of leaning towards MFS for price or S & B (an arbitrary choice).

Any advice or better choices?

Going to give cast bullets a whirl in this one which I've not tried before, but I think this should be a good caliber choice.

I’ve reloaded a lot of S&B brass mainly in pistols and 223 cases. Tight primer pockets, or seem to be. Maybe hard primers.
I’ve had really good luck with PPU/Prvi brass in various rifle cases, and specifically x39 brass that also feeds my Zastava. YMMV, and just my experience

I've used a bunch of PPU. Never had any issues. - dan

Not trying to knock call2arms, but I’ve found with almost every calibre brass I e used by Hornady, the primer pockets gets loose after the second or third loading without even being top end reloads

I would expect this brass to last a long time so tight primer pockets may be not such a bad thing. I've found Hornady to be a bit spendy, given the exchange it isn't likely to improve.

I have used various brands. Two I like are Gecco and PPU as I seem to get more reloads out of them.
My plinking loads are with a 160 gr cast with a max load of Alliant 2400. They work well in my CZ 527, SKS and Rashid. Better accuracy and cleaner than Red box Norinco.

PPU I load 25.5 gr of H4198 under a 123gr PPU or Hornady SP. I get 1/2" groups at 100 yards from a CZ 527. Start a at 24gr and work up for your gun. Several deer and a buddies daughter took a moose.

I had an email from an Ontario dealer advertising 1000 of RUAG 7.62x39 brass soft point for $900. Non corrosive, and the labelling looked Czech. RUAG company is Swiss and you cannot find better factory ammo than theirs. Is this any good? Dunno, but if I was going to get serious with training for accuracy, say in service rifle matches, I'd start with this and not Chinese, Russian or Czech lacquered steel blaster ammo.

I bought a lot of the ruag 7.62x39 target ammunition. It is not very accurate. Barnaul is pretty good if you can find it.

PPU brass in calibers I've used ,7.62x30,308,303,7.5x55,7.62x54R,very good to excellent.
S&B not worth the trouble (primer seating issues)
Hornady Brass seems to vary caliber to caliber. I am on loading 5 with some Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor, hot loads, no problem. I have lots of this stuff because that was all I could find when 6.5 Creedmoor came out.
BUT I have some Hornady 308 Match brass I bought on hgere. Getting case body splits after just 1 load in some cases, moderate loads. I would never buy more in that caliber.

I picked up a box each fmj PPU and MFS(RAUG I think) and they did just fine for me at this point. I knew the PPU brass was good, but the MFS looks usable too.

I have a whack of S&B brass but I prefer my PPU, Winchester, or Federal brass. I had the primer pocket issue with the S&B and used a primer pocket reamer to reform some of them. My pet load is 25.5 gr. of RL7 with the 123 gr. Hornady SST's. It works beautifully out of my Howa and my brother's CZ.
