7.62x39 for Deer

It works, can confirm.

The best bullet is the Barnes 123gr TSX. We've used it on whitetail, black bear, and mule with excellent results. Penetration is so good I would feel confident using it on larger game with careful shot placement and distance.

Interesting. Is that bullet designed specifically for 7.62x39 velocity then? 2400fps at the muzzle seems low for a monometal unless it's specifically designed for the lower velocity?

What I don't understand is why there are no hunting bullets for this caliber in 130 to 140gr weights.
Not that I dont think 123 gr does the job, obviously it does, but does anyone have any thoughts as to why the x39 seems to be confined to 123gr?
I've often pondered a nice light bolt gun in x39 for my treestand blacktail hunts

I've got some Bear or Wolf FSU fodder in 160 grain...but that is prerolled.

The SST is probably the best bullet other than the bonded Federal Fusion offering. Stay away from PPU as it acts more like an FMJ. SST will do its part out to 175m.

Barnes 123gr TSX .310.......Privi 123 gr SP works fine on deer and moose...Win bulk 123gr SP....Hornady 123gr SP and Sierra 150gr SP .311.........200 yards is my MAX Never shot a deer twice or had them go 25 yards.

130gr Woodleigh Weldcores.

I have shot a couple of White Tails with my Ruger M77mk2 in 7.62x39. Used federal blue box ammo, one shot per deer with great results. Ranges were no more than 100m.

Horses for courses. I switched from a 30-06 to a 300 Win Mag when I was hunting on the Prairies. The engagement distances are much longer than in the East. I wanted a veritable laser that would connect when I held on the hair. Distance estimation is one thing some guys are good at - I didn't want to miss any more with the 30-06.

And yes, one season I carried 12ga., 7.62x39, .308 and 300 Win Mag at different times. The bigger rifle was the one that connected.

The way I see it 123gr is so close to 130gr, and 140gr is so close to 150gr that there is little point of trying to split the difference.

Lolno. It's a tipped interlock basically.

The interbond is hornadys bonded bullet.

Nice to know manufactures use different terminology for their stuff.

INTERLOCK® RING
This Hornady exclusive design mechanically locks the core and jacket together to maintain bullet integrity during expansion, ensuring maximum weight retention and increasing the chances of complete pass-throughs.

I carried it for moose but as luck would have it hand the .300 H+H in hand when the opportunity presented itself.
