7.62x39 for Deer

Generally 123grs at 2400 is about it for commercial 7.62X39

Federal offers their Powershok 125 at 2570fps for the 30-30

It pretty obvious that were these the same bullet from the same rifle design, the 30-30 would be a clear winner regardless of range. It's also true that 30-30 factory loads are under loaded due to old rifles out there.

Obviously the 30-30 is capable of more it’s longer and has a 10 grain powder advantage over the x39. I don’t think that’s the point of this thread though.

I like a 150 grain bullet in my 30-30 and it's plenty good enough for any deer that walks the earth. I have hunting ammo for a 7.62 round also and it's also plenty good enough for deer at proper shooting distance.

ive just returned from big smoke, withhhhh .311 SPEER HOT COR 150gr.................... nnnnnnd AR2207.. What? you might Ask.... well its H4198 to you Canades!

Look on hodgons site they have info for 150 grain hornady

Would love to know if it makes any difference. If I had to guess I’d bet you have better results with the 123’s or woodleigh 130’s

its creating a bit of interest for ssure on whats actually 'needed' to take a large deer under a general stalk scenerio... but the more i use it , its fast becoming favourite...
