7.62x39- How accurate is it really?

Bulk ammo in an sks:

100 yards, open site, I hit 5 shots in the size of a loonie.

I think that is very good but I have no comparisons...

question what does MOA stand for?

MOA? Mathematical Opportunity for A$sh*le- for the stock sks it is under 10%, if you add an aftermarket stock it goes up to 20%, foregrip and flashlight, and it leaps up to 60%! I have lots of dressed sks, but two are stock, so that brings me down to 30% mathematical opportunity of a$sh*le.

Minute of Angle. Translates as 1 moa= 1" at 100m, 2" at 200m etc...

Minute of arc, as per wikipedia, though I have heard it reffered to as minute of angle.

1 MOA is a 1 inch difference in your grouping at 100 yards.. I beleive, though Im sure to be corrected regarding the calculation of your group spacing momentarily by a more experienced Gun nut.

Wicked shooting man! Were you shooting the really old Czech or the newer polish FMJ?

I have never done that with a sks. Ever. I would have to say:

A loonie you say? The bird, or the coin?

haha nice.

I'm serious, I was surprised but it was right there, 5 shots.

Green casing brass coloured head.....I think

thanks for the info on MOA

Just traded for an AIA in x39, gonna try to squeeze max accuracy out of it with handloads and optics....stay tuned

Yaaa...rub it in! Anyway for ultimate x39 results it has to be CZ 527...even though,I've never seen a military style rifle with such tight tolerances as the AIA,so could come close ;)

I would never feel undergunned in the bush with an 858. A Barnes tsx out of a 7.62x39 rifle would kill a moose out to 150 yards. The 7.62 x39 is not too little gun for hunting. In this day and age everyone thinks they need a 300 RUM for deer.

Yup,wait another ten years and it moves to 50BMG...cause the deer could still be twitching after punched right over with a 300 WM-RUM-WE* (*whatever)
...If the deer does the kick after being hit, still manages to make 150yd and be collected then...no successful kill? Do I have to blow a football sized hole (and that is just the enterance wound)??? Naa! If I'm all about a f***in trophy,maybe-but I kill for meat, not for horns--a x39 is less destructive there!...even a 270 leaves a hell of a hole on the exit when she caught a bone!

I'll believe it, as I have seen similar. I handed my gun over (cz858 non-res with a vortex strikefire) to my Pops at the range ( this is a guy who shot AK's in the Polish army back in the day with irons), and he was able to get about 4-5 shots in an area the size of a toonie, maybe a little larger.... (gun was pretty cool (the bbl), we had only gone through about 10 rounds beforehand)

Can't say I can do the same... I'm not as composed as him. lol. :D

So yes, the 7.62X39 CAN be accurate if shot through a decent gun and with steady hands/a good sight system (or even irons).

I use my cz858 for deer season :)

i hunt deer in ontario with my 858, have only shot one deer so far at about 25 yards, stopped within 5 feet,

most of the deer hunting up here is in thick bush and shots would never exceed 100 yards. with most deer ive seen taken at 40 yards or less, so an sks or cz in perfect.

for long shots out west, something bolt action and scoped would be a much better choice.

I like mine for yotes, but as far as deer, black bear and moose, i stick with my norc m14 (.308). For begining hunting i would recommend either the rem 770 package ( ive had very very good luck with rifle, it was my first hunter) and ive also heard that the savage 111 has a beginers package worth lookin into

It also depends of what kind of ammo you use...
What kind of rifle you shoot...
how is the trigger pull on the rifle...
...

I started a thread on 7.62X39 and 7.62X54R couples month ago.
I try to find as many brand as I can and I plan to test them in differents rifles... But only when spring come in :p As you can see I still have not found them all... Yet !!!
