Hey all, i was just wondering if anyone has any experience using that Canada Ammo 7.62x39 in there ruger mini 30? Ive been reading that some SKS are having misfires due to a tough primer with this ammo. How are the firing pins in a mini 30, also i read somewhere it also has a different diameter barrel compared to the SKS, is it still safe to shoot this ammo in my mini?

I think the Mini 30 is chambered for brass cased SAAMI spec 7.63X39 ammo, although there probably is not much difference-steel cased, corrosive milsurp ammo is probably not what you want to be shooting.

I Heard somewhere (Another dirty rumor maybe) that Euro 7.62X39 shouldn't be used in a mini. Something about bore diameter being .308 in a mini and 7.62X39 being .310 in diameter. Could be wrong but I figured I should mention it.
Ya thats what i heard as well, the barrel having a different diameter, now im getting worried, i ordered a case of ammo from Can Ammo today, is this stuff gonna blow up in my face or what?

I don't have a link to back it up, but I do recal reading that although the Mini 30 is a .308 bore, IT IS SAFE to fire Comblock .311 dia. stuff through it.
Certainly makes sense that Ruger might reasonably expect someone somewhere might put a round or two of East German/Czeck/Chinese/Bulgarian/Romanian/Russian/Hungarian/Etc military surplus through a mini.

yep as its been said u can shoot 310 763x39 in the .308 dia bore mini 30 most of us have done that.
Its not enought to damage that gun.

The Ruger Mini-30 was designed on a compromise: they wanted people to be able to shoot .308 bullets through their barrels but the rifle should be able to swallow and digest any run-of-the-mill milspec ammo too.
What they did was design a longer tapering leade to litterally "swage" .310" bullets to .308" diameter.
So either you shoot .308" bullets in a long unsupporting leade or force oversize bullets through a .308" bore.
And it gives Ruger the option of using conventional .308" bored barrels instead of more expensive .310-.311" ones. This part is the hidden face of the deal...
It works like a compromise: so-so... I would be curious to see what a really correctly specced (barrel and chamber) Mini-30 could do with proper ammo.

Thanks for the info guys! I will be shooting up that milsurp ammo as soon as it warms up here. On another note i emailed Chris at Can Ammo asking this question, and he contacted Ruger (great customer service by the way) there reply was not to use this ammo. Then i posted on Thefiringline.com website, and there was a fellow on there that talked to Ruger as well and they said that using this ammo will void the warranty on my rifle. Reasons were it was corrosive and the primers were too soft causing them to blow out? Oh well i mean if i clean the rifle after shooting this stuff i cant see no harm done.
