I bought two pounds of it to play with that I haven't even opened yet. I was thinking it might be less temperature insensitive than other powders.

The Lee reloading manual cover bullets up to 150 grs. using Reloader#7,for 147 to 150 gr. bullets I use the starting load of 24.5 grs. the Max. is 24.8 grs. never found a reason to go past the starting load as my Yugoslavian SKS will shoot groups under an inch with the irons a 50 yds. all day long using the 147 gr. Bulgarian .310.5 surplus bullets or Speer or Sierra 150 gr. .311 dia. bullets.

The heaviest jacketed bullet I have fired on a regular basis is the Bulgarian 187 gr. surplus bullets,with those I found that 18.0 grs. of Reloader #7 give excellent accuracy but velocity is rather slow in the 1700 fps range and the bullet drops like a rock out past 100 yds. For heavier than normal bullet above the weight of 150 grs. I shoot the Lee .312 160 gr. gas check tumble lube bullet,Reloader #7 works fine with that particular bullet but I find I get better accuracy get better velocity with less powder using Alliant 2400.

Haven't use H-4198 but do use the IMR version with the 123 gr. weight bullets. 4198 is slightly faster than Reloader #7 so you use less powder and in some instances you will also get less velocity but it's not much. Hodgdon list data on there web site for 125 gr. .311 and 150 gr. .312 dia. J bullets using H-4198 but you can safely use 123 gr. .310 dia. bullet with the 125 gr. data or 147 to 150 gr. bullets up to .312 in dia. with the 150 gr. data anything above that and I would contact Hodgdon directly for heavier bullets and charge weights.

SO, for those that doubted using H110 in 7.62x39 I have some interesting info. Sorry, no pics as the targets were used afterwards for just plinking.

Here's the data:

Just to recap - I'm using an AIA 7.62x39 in bolt action. Custom synthetic stock with 3-12x50 Tasco scope (Yes I need a better one). I shot all groups from 100 metres, prone, using sandbags.

Wolf 7.62x39 123gr HP - I've heard this ammo is decent, however unavailable now but figured I shoot a bit of what I have. 2-5 round groups, would not try this on game - group was approx 8", scattered.

Surplus 7.62x39 125gr SP from '94 - 2-5 Round Groups (Not sure of make, chinese). Similar more like 12", junk group would not suggest.

7.62x39 reloads - 2-5 round groups - 110gr H V-max .308" bullet, loaded with Lapua brass, winchester primers, 19gn (+-.02) H110. Groupings were excellent, the best I've seen since using R7 and 125gr HP's. Grouping was tight at 2" (for a carbine), velocity around 2500 FPS.

Second was same components - 2-5 round groups, but with 20gn of H110. Opened up the groupings by 6" lol.


So will continue working on loads, but for those that are interested, there is good news H110 works alright in 7.62x39 ;-D
