7.62x39 mis-fires

I have a Norinco JW 103 Bushranger 7.62x39. I have been using czech surplus and norinco ammo but I am getting a lot of mis-fires, primer is dented but apparently not enough. Sometimes the round will fire when I re-#### rifle and try again but not always. Sometimes I can put the round in my SKS and it will fire after two failed attempts in the bolt action rifle.
Has anyone here problems like this?

Military primers are generally very hard. Try commercial 7.62x39 ammo in your 103. If they fail to fire, then your rifle definitely needs work. If it's only struggling with surplus, then you can try to increase the force of the striker impact by polishing select parts of the fire control system, and/or getting a heavier spring. You should check for striker protrusion as well, but my first guess would be striker power.
 
I would first take my bolt and firing pin completely apart to make sure its clean before I did anything else. Sounds like you're not getting a good hit or the pin is warn. Check for dirt first.
 
The gun is new, less than 50 rounds fired yet. Had a few mis-fires in my sks too so I`m thinking it may be the ammo but not sure. I`m wondering if MFS ammo has a softer primer.

What kind of FP do you have in the SKS? If it is the spring loaded Murray pin it can cause FTF on surplus ammo.
Agree that it could be the FP or the force applied to the FP especially with surplus. Look to see if there is a way of increasing spring force or adjust the FP protrution but only a SMALL amount.

Don't know about MFS primers relative to milsurp. But given how new the rifle is, you should expect the retailer to warranty it IF it fails to ignite US-made commercial ammo. If you want to DIY, then that's another matter.
 
If you took the bolts apart and cleaned them good then the next thing would be to check firing pin protrusion if thats good then get a new stronger spring.
 
I would think that a Chinese JW103 should work with the most common ammunition available from China. As far as I know, Chinese soft point uses the same cases and primers as military ball.
I would check the bolt - clean, spring and firing pin protrusion. Headspace could be an issue, if the round can chamber deep enough to reduce firing pin impact.
 
I have a Bushmaster. It has not had a problem firing.

I also have a rem 788 in 7.62x39 and with the rem spring in the bolt, it was about 50% misfires with milsurp ammo. A change to a 28 pound spring fixed that.

If you know how to take the bolt part, remove the rear assembly so you can wash the inside of the bolt, spring and firing pin with Varsol, kerosene or gas. Then shoot it dry, or with a squirt of G96, but no oils. This will get you the maximum oomph from the existing spring.

If you don't know how to take the bolt part, let it soak for a day or two in a pie pan of gas or Varsol. Swish it around from time to time. You want to wash out the grease that might be in the bolt.
 
i have shooted some Russian ammo from 51 and 58 and some Romanian from 69 and some czech and never had a missfire in my sks and cz , check your gun you may have a used firing pin or something else
 
canuck is right, yeah you can clean, lube, add stiffer spring, etc
had several 7.62x39 guns...have experince
baikal single and norinco 103 known for this...shoot away cheap surplus
but when the shot must count simply use comercial (or reloads)
 
Difference between hard primers and soft primers. I bet dollars to donuts that if you tried to shoot those so called dud's they would go bang every time.
