7.62x39 Norinco non corrosive $9.99

How are you guys dealing with the shipping?

I've tried 2 times ordering ammo from cabelas and they wanted something like 200$ + for shipping and it had to be delivered on a pallet under dangerous goods act from Day and Ross, this was 5000 rounds of bird shot, I don't trust them when they say "free shipping"

Thats definitely not a usual order size. I got free shipping on 1000rds of 22lr for boxing day. UPS to my door.

Use the store pickup option. See how easily it fits in your car.

I just purchased 1000 rounds, entered pal, address, free ship code, payment info and had no issues. Wasn’t charged anything for shipping. Call those fools, find out WTF is going on when checking out. 1-800-265-6245

Is this red box or white box? The red is the only stuff you can trust.

I thought white box was the only stuff you could trust?

I've had everything from a single box to a couple flats ship for free. People in my trap and skeet club who wanted to order a bunch of flats had to split up the orders into a bunch of different ones and they honoured the free shipping.

Just order form Tenda, $270 for 500 rounds and only 5% tax, never had a single problem. Click on free shipping when you order and add insurance for $3. I ordered once from cabelas and do not plan on doing it again.

It's not the dollar amount or whatever else. If you aren't in an area where the courier has an agreement to handle dangerous goods you will be charged extra. Most people will be fine. They won't ship anything at all as far as powder, primers or ammunition to me. I have been through it several times. $175 for 5 flats of shotshells last time. Tenda is even worse, they won't even ship component bullets to my area without major shipping charges. The courier considers them the same as ammunition. At least that's what Tenda says...

Tenda won’t ship to my town even though UPS and Canpar come everyday. They have a drop off hub in town but for some reason won’t ship ammo or reloading components here. Tenda did off to send it to Llyodminister for pickup which is 1.5hrs away. That’s not too bad but big box store ships right to my house via UPS. Makes no sense, I guess there’s an extra service charge or something.

I’m in the same boat, small rural town in Alberta so sometimes I get dinged extra shipping charges. Understandable

Tenda's even worse than Cabelas for offering free shipping and charging you extra.

All the silver box I've had was good non-corrosive.

Silver box is from the 90s. How is this relevant to the discussion?

Is this red box or white box? The red is the only stuff you can trust.

So this is a Cabela's problem...what they are selling now is red box, headstamp 311 20 or higher.

The problem is they previously sold white box 311 18. That had corrosive rounds in it mixed together. The fact that they keep the white box photo for their listing is doing a serious disservice to them - people who got burned with corrosive white box are warning others to stay away (and rightfully so, if they kept selling 311 18, but they are not - at least online and in the 1 Bass Pro and 1 Cabela's I have visited in person). In store or online it is only red box they are selling and I have ordered last year and this year and it's 311 20 and some 311 21. All have proven non corrosive. Same for 311 19.

The only white box I have tried which is proven non corrosive is 311 14. There may be others, but for sure 311 18 is the white box to avoid. Red box started in 2019 I believe.

The only thing that stinks about buying in store at my local Bass Pro is that they limit you to two (2) boxes....which is really dumb seeing as you can order as much as you want online. I have heard of people being able to finagle the sales rep to allow them to buy more, but last time I was in there the guy was insistent two boxes max only and claimed it was a government directive (which is not true). I just went home and ordered a bunch online for delivery.

Showed up today, boxes are red. Is there any way to test the primers to see if they are or aren’t corrosive? Someone said sacrifice a round, scratch the primer with a nail and see if it rusts. Is that something that would work? I guess you could always blast a couple rounds and wait a day or two. See if your firearm starts rusting

My eyes are bad...what's the headstamp say? Looks like 311 - 19. If so, they are fine. I have shot literally thousands of 311- 19, and 300 - 20 of the red box. Not a single problem.

The problem is with 311 - 18 of WHITE BOX possibly others. But red box has been fine.

You can do the nail test, but it's not just scratching the primer. It's removing the bullet, removing the gunpowder and having a nail strike the primer, and then check on the nail later.

But if yours is 311-19 RED BOX, it should be fine.

As I said earlier, Cabela's in particular is keeping the wrong colour stock photo on their Norinco ammo. They are selling red box 311 - 20, but the picture is white box. And people who have had problems had problems with white box 311 - 18 and possibly others (311 - 14 white box is OK, I have shot thousands of those as well and check my gas tube / piston rod days later) are rightfully angry thinking Cabela's is still selling what they bought earlier that was corrosive.

Others here on CGN can validate that red box 311 19 and 311 20 is consistently non corrosive.

I have some silver box stuff & some red box stuff I bought at BassPro last year on sale, briefly, for C$7.99 a box. Great price, right?
On another note, I have had multiple case body splits with the silver box ammo in my Savage bolt gun. Completely jammed it up, locked up the bolt too. Had to use a rod to displace the split case after adding lube down the barrel. Kinda ruined my range time abruptly.
To try & avoid this I add a drop of lube on each case before chambering.

Verified stamped 311-19…. Thank God.

I didn’t want to run this stuff until someone could verify “non corrosive”. Thanks for the input, I will however check my rifle after discharging some rounds just to make sure. From what I understand it doesn’t take long for corrosive primers to start rusting your firearm. 12-24hrs and you’ll start seeing damage without rinsing the salts off.
