7.62x39 reloads

I've reloaded 7.62x39mm in the past. You can load better bullets for hunting, but due to the design of the cartridge, reloaders can't push much more out of it than the factories can. You can get better bullets, but ballistically they are going to be very similiar.

I've asked myself why do I waste the time reloading for this caliber? Factory ammo is cheaper than you can load it, although your stuck with FMJ then.

"...your stuck with FMJ then..." Only with surplus. Winchester loads it with a 123 gr SP. So does Federal. Remington loads a 125 grain SP. None of 'em will be as inexpensive as surplus ball though, but it's out there.

I had experimented with reloading for a Yugo SKS. They were 123 grain soft points, out of Winchester brass and were compressed loads. They were quite snappy and I never recovered any of the brass (threw them 40ish feet into very tall grass). I loaded 20 up and I think I have 10 left. Would be a good hunting load but losing every empty while sighting it in kinda sucks. With surplus being so cheap it is not worth reloading. Perhaps when I run out of Norinco Silver box I will pick up more brass and start reloading for the Yugo so I don't have to use corrosive in her.
