Hello! I'm pretty new to firearms and I have my eyes set on a surplus SKS. Seems like a good gun for some fun and when I get into deer hunting. I'm looking around for some non-corrosive ammo, seems to be hard to find at the moment though. The Canadian Tires around me are sold out, but a few of the sites I've looked at have corrosive but ehhhh I'm not sure.

So I figured I'd ask people who'd know better, where should I look, where can I look, what brands should I look at if it even matters? And is corrosive vs non-corrosive a big deal if I keep up with cleaning?

Not a big deal if you have time to clean it. I don’t so I stick to non-corrosive.

Lots of places have Barnaul, some have Norinco white box. CanadaAmmo makes their own non-corrosive with surplus components.

As -06 said, if you have the time to clean . . . it's simple enough to do and really only takes a few minutes - like 1/2 hour if you're really picky. Windex and super hot tap water at the 'laundry sink', then clean and oil as if N-C. Mil-surp usually is dirty - leaves a bit more carbon-ish, but when you compare $7-8/20 to $20+/20 . . . a bit of time and lots more shots for your money. Chinese Mil-surp is about $250/720 rounds and that would last you quite a while . . . and I just got a 'full-case' of 1440 Chinese for $480 tax & shipping incl. Depends on how much time you wish to spend - cleaning and shooting.
