7.62x39 surplus all gone?

this was a test a ran back in 2019. Number 1 & 3 were Czech surplus, 2 was the "semi" corrosive from Lever, 4 was Norinco silver box I got from Canada Ammo. I think this pic was after 1 week. Rust just starting to develop under the nail head of the semi corrosive

are you sure 1 and 3 are corrosive, I've never seen brown lacquer Czech, and it usually is always a bxn headstamp

# 1 & 3 were definitely corrosive. One of our RO's brought it in for our test. I thought he said it was Czech, but I may not have remembered correctly. It was on stripper clips. The "semi" corrosive stuff from Lever was in spam cans in paper wrapped bundles of 25 I think it was

Bought my first SKS in Late 2025, purchased a second SKS just before Christmas. Purchased three crates of Chinese ammo from the LGS and then another 3 crates of non corrosive Chinese and corrosive Romanian from a poster on this site. All in all average price per round is $.22/round. As someone here earlier said, “buy cheap, stack deep”, I go through about 220-250 rounds each range visit and always clean my gun thoroughly after each day, better safe than sorry.

We have used various cleaning CLP's over the years, and currently using Slip2000 Carbon Killer. It's really good for cleaning the fouling out of barrels and actions.

With the amount of rounds we go through, we eventually break everything. The SKS is probably one of our most reliable semi-autos. We get ~15k rounds through it before we wear out a barrel. Our range is only 15m deep though, so we only do that when we see the rounds start to keyhole.
What do you do once you've worn out the barrel? I hear they're hard as hell to replace barrels on, so do you just strip them for parts?

I was taking stock of what 39 I have left and got to thinking about replacing some non corrosive as I deplete it. How does the Ruag from Tenda shoot?

Ruag is the best you can get...

Csc used to be the importer until a bigger fish took it. Too bad because they brought in special flavours of the stuff.

^ ^ That was a month ago ! LOOK at dates !
And Scorpio - LIKE I SAID - Still there.

Still lotsa Nor Red Box avail, but that's it except for GP or LGS leftovers. 60c is "the New Price" unless you find someone 'dumping'.

I'm getting down to my last few boxes on non-corrosive norinco silver box, but then I have an crate sitting there unopened that I bought way back when WSS was still in business. I think its also non-corrosive silver box but won't know till I dig it out.

I just don't shoot SKS often.

Tenda should still have a lot
Didja LOOK ? ONLY a couple brands of ammo under $1 is the Nor-Red, like I said, ca 56c , others are close to $1.
And NO "surplus". Just watch GP and EE (if you have access). I just sold a can of Chinese at 50c last month because I'm tired of 'Extra cleaning' the soot.
