The great debate of corrosive 7.62X39 haha. Just curious how some of you guys treat this ammo and firearm after a day of shooting? I myself do the following, shoot till I’m done than pour a bottle of 50% water and 50% windshield washer fluid down the barrel, than take it home and clean it when I have time. Which is usually within a week to 10 days. Haven’t seen any pitting or rust of any kind. Bore is still perfect on my rifles as is all the related components. The reason I use washer fluid is because it does a great job of desolving salts and grime. Works great on our vehicles and never damages our painted surfaces or soft rubber seals, which is why I started using it. I don’t use the summer stuff, only the -35 winter juice.
Curious if anyone else has a great home brew quick clean solution that stops the corrosion before it starts.
 
What are you doing for the gas system and bolt? All those corrosives go through the gas piston and rust that up too.

I do a complete field strip and soapy water clean followed by wd40 then a lube like rem oil or atf.

I field strip it and pour my solution on all the parts, than the usual at home clean and oiling. I found my home brew neutralizes the corrosiveness till I have time to properly clean and oil.
I have also used the soapy water method with good results.
 
After firing commie ammo in my commie rifles, I immediately piss down the barrel. Just like back in Mother Russia, comrade.

Just kidding. I use soapy water, wd40 then g96 or remoil, whatever I have on hand that day
 
Balistol and that is all.... especially in the winter. I field strip at the range spray it down and put it back together. I can break down a SVT SKS or etc pretty fast and back back together and done. List others have said be sure to clean the gas system

Clean like any other non-corrosive shooting firearms with CLP
Inspect a day after, 2 days after (been doing that for years withour ever seeing rust so I must be doing it good)
 
Either way the gun is cheaper than the box of ammo lol. If you shoot lots and it's cooked after a year or 2 no big deal.

Alcohol does nothing to dissolve the salt left on the gun.

If you want to do something on the range, pour a thermos of hot water down the barrel. Cheap. (Free)

It’s been working for me for years, and it does dissolve salts. They use more salts on our roads these days and washer fluid breaks through it no problems even after it’s baked on your windshield, plus it never rusts metals. Next time there’s a heavy white film around your wheel wells just pour washer fluid on it and watch the white crystallized salts wash away. But yea straight water works to.

Just ask yourself a question. In the winter, what cleans salt off your car? Balistol? oil? hoppes? no. Its water and soap that cleans off salt from your car. Why would your gun barrel be any different?

A hand held steam cleaner is a great tool.. 50 bucks or so on Amazon. You are cleaning with water, only with great heat and modest blasting pressure. The nozzle fits right in the chamber.
It’s amazing for cleaning anything and everything around the house/ shop for that matter, try it!

I had three different 39's out shooting on Sunday. Zastava bolt, Baikal single, and a straight pull Chinese military SKS. Treated them all the same Next day I cleaned the barrels with FLUID FILM. That's it, that's all. Been using it for years. Never had one rust yet.

Years ago, I let a Portugese 1904/39 8x57 sit for ?? too long. Could see the rusticles hanging in the barrel. Got lucky on that one. It cleaned up. I bought a real nice matching Mauser 98 from an estate, same thing. I cleaned that sucker with everything I had. Finally took it out and dusted a couple of boxes of that ugly Yugo milsurp with the the nickel-cupro (or whatever it is called) bullets. Shined the Mauser up fairly good. I check that rifle often, just to make sure. It got a good working over with FLUID FILM. :)

I understand what you mean, but back in the day, lee enfield were cheap and many others, those that fired their rifles but kept them in good repair can now sell them for good money, just because they are cheap now, doesn't mean they will be cheap in 10 years! Then again, if you are shooting 10-15 crates out of your sks, then yep, just go buy another and keep the old one for parts!
 
After range go home, take shower, bring rifle in to the shower. While shampooing your head open the action of rifle and pour your favorite shampoo or body wash in to the action and let it drip down through the bore. Rinse your head under the shower and by holding your rifle muzzle down make sure water from your head pours down the barrel of your rifle. Set rifle aside and finish taking shower. Let it dry and then clean as if non corrosive ammo was fired. Problem solved
