7.62x39 Tracer

hmmmm I dont like the idea of people shooting tracer. Can you say forest fire! It happens all the time on our ranges in the military. But the army has its own fire department on call civis dont.

I like the idea of shooting tracer, but the fire hazard is real. I've seen my share of accidental fires related to fireworks, and those started 10 yards away, not 100,200,300 yards away. I can't imagine any range letting you use tracer, and bush shooting with it sounds like a forest fire waiting to happen. And this is from a guy who wants to shoot some...

tracer and 26mm flare pistols are real fire starters in this dry weather. you would be better off testing it over water!!!!

I set a beach on fire with tracer from an M60 once, it had been raining that day too. So you might have fun on Burke Mountain in this weather.
Tracer is fun, though :).

Yes it certainly is. Not many folks can say they started a fire 500m from where they were, with a Bren, no less.:)

How is that stuff for bore erosion?

It seems like it would be cool to play with, shooting over the Ocean at night.:)

I don't have a practical use for it though...:(

Sorry, no more left, I bought it ALL!!!
No, not really, but I did get three crates of it today.
It kind of hurts to drop that much money all at once, but I just know that in a few years I'll be wishing I bought a lot more.
I have been through that before, where I bought a lot of something, only to wish I could have bought more a few years later.

Good guys to deal with at Lever Arms. Jeremy was most helpful, and both he and Kin were explaining how the cost of shipping ammo has gone stupid in the last year or so.
This stuff could no longer be shipped through Germany now, because Germany now requires EACH round to be marked with the caliber. A military headstamp like BXN 68 is not acceptable.
So he had to re-direct the shipment through Netherlands instead.
What a PITA!

Even still, this is a good price for ammo. I doubt a guy could reload it for this price.

ok... i'm kinda at a loss here... yup, tracers are cool no doubt there.. but where can you use them w/ regards to fire hazard? i doubt my range would be keen on tracer usage.

i just see a limited appeal for spending my shooting dollar on these...maybe i missed the bus on the idea.. wouldnt be the first time and prob wont be the last..;)

or is it a "just to have them" thing?
