7.62x39 Tracer

Its been raining for days here on the coast, so maybe its safe to pop off a few myself now.
I haven't so far because we had really hot dry weather up until recently. (That and the "no time for nothing" issue)

I'm in Langley, where can you shoot tracer, range wise? Are you just bush shooting? I want to know before I buy a few crates, I still have a couple crates of non-tracer.

No ranges, most likely. Besides, at 100M or 200M, it would impact before you could enjoy it.
I would go up a logging road, and find a rock face 800M or 1200 M away to plink at.

I just cracked one of the cases I bought. Much to my surprise it's a repack with NO sealed tin. Anyone else seen this?

It had 1420 rds in the squareish boxes and 100 in rectangular boxes.

My case was a sealed spam can, was even more of a pain to get into than the regular spam cans of Czech ammo. Whomever sealed my can loved the solder! All the ammo in in square boxes, packed much like Wolf ammo is.

Mini Grinder! Just be careful not to catch the cardboard boxes on fire. I actually had a bit of smoke wisping off of one of the boxes!

where did you go for that?

I'm just in surrey here... and the only place i have shot outside of a range is the mission pit.

thanks

According to the Lever website (until a few minutes ago) it was 2520 rounds...guess they fixed the error. Drat!

I saw that and was really wondering... figured maybe it was the kind of tracer that would eat your bore on the way out:p

Edit - I use either a small iron bar or a pair of plyers and twist the lid off... none of mine have ever been all that resistant...

...Tracer rounds really scare me and should only be used by highly trained military and police forces. Tracer rounds also contribute to Global warming and my "Uncle Fudd" assured me that they are indeed illegal in Canada!!! .

...for the gun owner who would say that other gun owners firing tracer rounds is a "bad idea" or "there's really no use for them"...give your head a shake man!...those are the same lines the antis use against you and your military looking "machine gun" with "super sniper scope", firing boring "conventional" ammo. :jerkit:

:p Mad Mikey.

i want some of these rounds BAD but im pissed there so far away the shipping to Ontario would kill i might order a few boxes tho just to try it:cool:

I bought a case from Lever, shipping cost $75, and was very disappointed with these.
Took apart 5 rounds and tried lighting the bullets up. The tracer lit up bright red and looked very cool.
When i tried shooting these (at night), out of 15 rounds i fired, only 2-3 worked the way they were supposed to (glowing BRIGHT red) and another 3-4 "worked" but were barely visible with very dim yellow-ish (spark-like) light. The rest didnt ignite at all.

You got a bad batch then. I've fired 80-90 and might have had 3-4 not light. Some are dimmer, but most are good and bright.

Well, my case was a repack, so hopefully other boxes in the case are from a different batch and will work fine.

My case is a repack too. I thought I was the only one who got one of those. Did yours have 5 rectangular boxes and all the rest square?

At least my other case is sealed.

You appreciate that it takes range for the tracers to light? That is,if you are shooting at 50 yards,as opposed to 1-200 yards, the tracers will only light sporadically?
Just sayin.

Nope, all boxes in my case are the same (square-ish).

The weird thing is that the boxes are packed in the case in 3 rows. Bottom row is 7 by 4 boxes placed on a side, and top 2 rows are 6 by 4 placed "flat". I'll try to take a picture tomorrow.

I am well aware that the tracers arent supposed to light untill 100-200m. I was firing them into the air almost vertically, at night.
