7,62x39 who has the best deals now

Ok, so I emailed western metal and they said their 7.62x39 romainian surplus is non magnetic FMJ Ball ammo and is non corrosive... For 1320rds@$300. Bossman says its so, but I find it hard to believe? Anyone verify this? Is there anyway to verify if it is actually non corrosive?

I have not seen any surplus around thats not either steel core or bimetal...i think he is mistaken.

I don't think you'll find any surplus priced x39 ammo with brass cases for reloading. Don't worry, the steel case, bi-metal, corrosive stuff won't wear out your rifle. Most of us don't have the funding to buy that much ammo...minimum 20k rounds, and 40-50k would be the norm.

Yes, Romanian and Yugo is the only brass cased x39 ammo I've seen in Canada, and not much of it. Been a long time though....back when Century Arms was still around in Canada. It was so shiney and golden...so precious..;)

The prices are skyrocketing all over.. It really grinds my gears when shops say they're raising the price on something they've already paid for that's already in stock, because the dollar has dropped.

Like gas stations? Anyhoo, checking around last night, prices per round ranged from a low of 17.2 cents to a high of 20.5 for corrosive surplus in boxes. Case sizes varied from 1200 to 1400 per. On stripper clips up to 28 cents per. The only non-corrosive I found was high dollar Hornady and the like. Barnaul is in between. Reality bites!

We only complain, because we compare.

Just like 22LR.

The reality is, both of these calibres are still INCREDIBLY cheap to shoot.

that is definatly NOT the best deal around and it is not non corrosive

Probably the worst deal for surplus 7.62x39 right now and it is 100% corrosive.

I believe the last time I looked Marstar now with their free shipping was one of the better deals on 7.62x39.
It turned out non corrosive for me. Lever Arms has a pretty good deal (21 cents per round) for non-corrosive Chinese surplus here:

I got a crate to test it out back in December. Did the nail test and it came out non corrosive. But a more definitive test happened two weeks ago. I shot 275 rounds of this stuff on my 858 and waited 96 hours before cleaning it. It is indeed non corrosive.

After seeing these results, I went back to Lever and got more ammo. This time they had a nail test on their counter showing results for the ammo they sell. I guess they read CGN too.

Here's the report I posted in another thread:
While non-corrosive, this ammo did leave, IMO, more than the usual amount fine soot that got everywhere. For lubrication I usually use a heavier, more viscous oil. When the soot is mixed with this oil, it forms a black grease like substance - see image of piston at the base where the spring would go. I don't think this is detrimental to function. It just looks nasty. From now on, I'll only use G96 for lubrication on the CZ 858.

After the 275 round session, the piston face that receives the full direct brunt of gases had a rough surface. I lightly scratched a little bit of that roughness to find out what kind of residue it was made of. It looks like it is made of leftovers from the copper wash. The scratches revealed reddish bright metallic color tone of copper. The opposing side on the gas cylinder didn't show any signs of this metallic copper residue.

Did not do any grouping on paper to test the accuracy, but I can say I was consistently ringing a 9"x9" gong standing offhand at 100m. I did find some cartridges that had some small dents somewhere in the case. I also found some split necks. In spite of these, all fired reliably except for one: there was one case of a failure to feed that was quickly fixed with a forward assist. Later on, as I was reloading the stripper clips I found a cartridge that has a longitudinally bent case. I suspect that the one failure to feed was also due to a longitudinally bent case.

All in all, I'm happy with the results. Please excuse the defective focusing prowess of my camera phone for macro close ups. I also tried to get good pictures of the inside of the barrel, but I was disappointed. Suffice to say that after 96 hours the barrel looked very clean giving out a very slightly dull shine. Now here are the photos of the dirty rifle after 96 hours:

Happy to hear your crate was non corrosive.
However in the past, the ammo lever sold and advertised as non corrosive, turned out to be corrosive for many people that bought it.....

Same happened to wolverine I believe, they were assured the ammo was non corrosive by their supplier, but it ended up being corrosive.

I think in some cases, the supply is simply mixed. Some will get non, some will get corrosive...

They are cheap for a reason, this is not a good attitude to have as our dollar fluctuates all the time
Once our dollar goes back to normal so should the price, unless we all accept the bull#### price
