Can you use 5.56 Ammo in mag reliably in a ar-15 rifle?

I am sorry if this has been asked. Also how many 5.56 rounds this 10 round magazine will hold?

Yes you can!!! There is no law that says you can only load the type of rounds in to a magazine for which it is designed for. I believe for 7.62x39 10 round pistol mag, you can get 13 5.56 rounds in it. You can also get 50 beowulf magazines that can hold 15-16 5.56 rounds. There quite expensive and in very short supply.

You can try it with the XCR 7.62x39 pistol mags and see how it works out for you. With mine the .223 rounds pop out quite easily before the mags even get seated and it tended to double feed quite often.

That's my experience as well. Great in theory, lousy in practice.

The feed lips are shaped differently on the x39 mags.

Same here, grabbed a 7.62 X 39 mag by mistake for my 223 and was wondering why the rounds were almost popping out until I looked at the side of the mag. It works great with my 6.8 SPC though.

Speaking of XCR pistol mags in 7.62x39, Wolverine has stock again. I got a phone call yesterday confirming if I still wanted my back ordered mags or not.

Big time. I was looking for these for a while. I got the last one Questar had last week and then this week I ordered 4 more from Wolverine. I'm not greedy; 5 is enough.

No it's not ;)

I wouldn't bother trying to put .223 in a x39 mag. They just don't fit well enough for it to be worthwhile. Tried with mine and they just pop out and the nose dives to jam everthing up. Stick with proper .223/5.56 mags and if you want a few extra rounds look for the Beowulf mags; they seem to work alright with .223.
