Funny enough, I just started buying gold . I got $550 per crate.

Well....yea and no. It does eventually go bad. Primers have a shelf life. But it does pay off big time to buy cheap, especially if you sell later. I sold 15 crates of ammo for $550 each, I paid $220. Sold a grand total of 25 sks rifles for between $875-$1000 each. I paid $150 each. I liked the sks rifles but I like cash better. Now I have some solid precision rifles in my safe.

Even if you can't find surplus, Non-corossive Norinco 7.62x39 can be had for cheaper than any other centrefire rifle cartridge.

I was skeptical, but you're right. I just looked and found 556 bulk for $10 cheaper for a 1k rounds. That's still a pretty good price point to be at in the world of centerfire rifle cartridges.
