7.62x39

There is the problem. You must actually build walls with the crates. Therefore it qualifies as home improvement.....a necessity.:)

Thanks I'll try that one tonight :D

Ordered my SKS and a crate this week.... I'm already questioning my choice of only 1 crate of ammo and I haven't even gotten the rifle!

We have a 14X12 spot in the basement that only has 5 foot ceilings (side split house) that I am considering filling up with ammo of various types hahaha

How much ammo could you fit in 840 CUft LOL?? Enough to surpass the explosive storage limits?

7.62x39 will not go out of production for quite some time, as the AK is going away any time soon. The only way 7.62x39 will dry up in Canada will be through govt interference, another reason not to vote liberal or NDP.

Little over 8k Czech and an un-opened brick (500) of S&B SP. I'm looking at another 10 crates when my incometax return comes in next year - Like I should have done with the Yugo 8mm, GP11, SA 7.62x51 and 7.62x54r.

On a side note, wonder if we'll see any slowing down of x25 coming in. I'm pretty sure it was never as plentiful as the x39 but still wonder if there are any caches left to be found.

My SKS is still in cosmoline. Gotta fix that!

Going to get a crate to start and was wondering does anyone know if the surplus is of different quality depending where from or is it all pretty much the same?

Cheers

soft point prices vary depending where you buy. I bought 80 rds of S&B from a local shop for about $23/20 rds  ive seen it as cheap as $12/20 rds. Check frontier, tradex and sfrc.

The surplus available in stores is all the same Czech stuff. It's rare to find any other type of surplus these days.

Take note, most nations that used 7.62x39 has moved on to 5.56x45, 5.45x39 and 5.8x42.

The new stock will no longer be fire sale cheap when the coldwar surplus runs out, add in new UN sanctions and armistice red tape BS restrictions, more global proxy wars, the ammo situation could be very grim.

Even if there were tons of ammo in some forgotten bunkers, we may not be able to legally to import it in the near future.

But what do I know?

Russia is moving back to 7.62x39

Keep in mind the difference between being able to find small amounts of expensive hunting ammo, and getting cheap surplus ammo by the crate.

.303, .30-06, 8x57mm Mauser, etc are all still available at $25 per 20 round box at your local gunstore, but the days of getting caseloads for dirt cheap are long gone.

As former Warsaw pact countries like Czechoslovakia are now joining NATO, they are dumping the old x39 ammo and switch to NATO standard ammo.

I'm loading up now.

that has been delayed due to lack of funding. Things are not going to change much over the next 5 years, not until the financial crisis has passed.

Lets not forget the millions of AK's being used in Africa and other rat hole nations. 7.62x39 will be around for a long time.

Gentlemen:

If I may add my thoughts.............

Accurate foresight is a true gift, that being said, if one has means, and the opportunity presents itself, take advantage of it, and continue to do so until you are no longer able to do so, weather it be lack of supply, or lack of resources.

Many time I have sold things off, with the thinking,

"..........this item is currently easy to get my hands on, and I should be able to do the same in the furture....."

Only to have a reality cramp about 30 days from now, and my supply had totally dried up, with no more to be had, or what is left to be had has risen steeply in price.

I really like the idea of continually buying supplies on a regular basis, that way when there is a bump in the road, one has a stash to get them through, or should the be no more available, that stash can give them time to re-tool or approach the issue from another angle with out down time.

The above are just my thoughts, but really, at the end of the day what do I know right?..............

Regards

AbH

There's no question the 7.62x39 will be around for a very long time. As tootall said, there's a huge difference between having cheap surplus available and merely being able to find it in stores.

Amen 2 that!
Also the most popular center fire round in the world is...
x39mm
I know most of us in the Western World wish it was the 5.56 but unfortunately it's just a western myth. Besides the 22LR the next most commonly consumed round by far is the x39.
