What are my options in firearms that chamber this round. It seems to be a cheap round and may be a treat for the range.

X2

get an SKS. standard or "D" modle, your choice. it's one rifle that I feel everyone should have in their collection. I've got two and they've served we well. your other options would be a a Ruger Mini30, but I understand their accuracy is nothing to brag about. for an $800+ gun I'd want alittle more. then CZ makes a bolt action rifle which is really nice. but you pay for it. and Norinco makes a bolt action too, the jurys still out on that one....
I'm guessing there are more, but those are the ones I know of.
P.S. the "cheap" ammo is corrosive, so please clean accordingly, or you will be very dissapointed one day. on an SKS that means the gas tube and everything. not a biggie, but you really do have to do it the same day you shoot. I waited till the next day one time and there was already a dusting of rust forming. my 2c

Have seen a couple guys selling their VZ52/57 rifles on the sight lately. I've shot one before and thought it was pretty decent. Looks to be well made also.

Except that the bores are not chromed :(

I could see this being a problem if you didn't properly clean the carbine after a day at the range, but if you clean for corrosive than there should be no problem. :)

agreed, very cool looking carbine the 52/57 is :) :)

there is a VZ58 and the CZ858. they are pretty much the same gun, but one has a longer barrel, making it non-restricted. I forget which, but one of them also has a chome barrel. do a search I'm sure you'll find all kinds of info on them. personally I'll keep my SKS, but thats just me.

Although not mentioned in such detail that was exactly what I was thinking when I drafted my response in this thread. Cleaning an unchromed bore for corrosive is easy stuff if you're already cleaning the gas system for corrosive :) :)

With this in mind I can't see that having a chrome-lined barrel would be a factor in purchasing - other than having the ability to tell your friends - "yup, she has a chrome lined barrel" and your friends going "ooooo, ahhhhh..." :D :D
