7.62x39mm bulk ammo

I know this has been discussed before but I just bought my first crate of 7.62x39mm ammo and I have to say, I am sure glad I didn't have to open that m*th*erf*ck*r under fire!!!! I thought loading mags with a speed loader and stripper clips under fire sucked!! I know that the point is to prevent moisture and rust but there had to be a better way!!

I think a lot of us have experienced the "joys" of opening one of these wee beasts. Took 2 guys and a tire iron to open mine . I sure would hat doing it under fire, or on my own for that matter!

After some practice is can be done rather quickly. I just stick a pry bar/big screw driver through a ring, stand on the box and pull with both hands. It helps to go in the proper order with the rings.

I always toss the can of juice in the sink and run water over it. Does that work for Czech ammo as well?

I just put a pair of vice grips on the ring and started twisting it like the openers of an old can of Spam. The strip just rolled up onto itself.

it took me about 20 minutes to open....
sure wouldnt like to do it under fire

anybody happen to know who has the cheapest prices on these crates right now (shipped to ON)? My last couple weeks have been uber stressful and I've burned through more than 1/2 a crate......thats a lot for me.

Just had the pleasure of opening my first one today. Stood on the damn thing and pulled. Very exciting!

The best price I have seen is $180 from Milarm in Edmonton but that price is only if you bought a CZ858 or SKS from then. Usually its $200 a crate, unless you buy a stupid amount in bulk.

Did my first one yesterday. Ahh you never forget your first time! The excitement, the opening, the awkwardness of realizing you have no clue what your doing... But you bet you get better with practice...

I didn't have a hard time, unpeeled the strips one at a time. Found it very disappointing after reading all the stories here.

I broke all the tabs off the first time, ended up opening it with a rotary tool & the little cut off wheels. could have cooked off i guess. . .

Used a large flat blade screwdriver to pry up the rings, then inserted it through the ring, stood on the box, and pulled with both hands. Took about 10 seconds.
