7.62x39mm bulk ammo

Hahaha...
All these posts about opening a crate under fire....then using tire irons vice-grips etc....I have an image of commie soldiers running through the battlefield with a tire iron, a big screwdriver and a pair of vicegrips hanging off their web belt. :D
I only ever experienced the overwhelming joy of opening a crate once. I musta got lucky in deciding which ring to pull first. Mine opened fairly easily with the typical discomfort on the finger from the ring.
You'd think the rings would be numbered as to which to pull first. It would sure lessen the times that rings break off cause yer pulling one first that should be pulled last.

I would open it differently if I was under fire.
Likely just use the end of my rifle in those nice big loops, if they tore off I'd move to the next crate.
Alternatively I'd use my leatherman.

I typically don't open 7.62x39 ammo crates under fire, so I use a crowbar/vise grips.

Would be nice but the numbers would probably be backwards or inside out like their letters are:D

Just look at how the strips overlap... pull off them in order so your not trying to pull one out from another

Exactly. I just opened my first one today. Not too big of a deal. Stood on the crate and slipped a bar through the rings and gave 'er.

Opened my second crate today. I managed a bit better this time. It's been a while.

The first crate the bullets where copper coloured. This crate they are the same colour as the casing (grey). Dated 1969 not sure about the last one.

Thinking about pulling a bullet out to investigate.

As to the rotory tool and a round cooking off. If you didn't get it hot enough to melt the solder I wouldn't worry about it. They had to get the tin hot enough to put that crap on there haha
