7.62x39mm Hornady SST

Anybody hunt with this? How does it perform on deer? What rifle were you using? Thx.

I am going to load some 123gr Barnes X for next years deer hunt,& will be shooting them out of a Ruger Compact.DAN>>>

Just wondering. Wolverine has 50 rounds for $35, steel cased but non corrosive. I'm thinking maybe I get some and try it in my CZ 858 next deer season (I assume it would be OK, I use .50 cal Hornady SSTs in my muzzleloader and the deer drop dead, but hey its a .50 cal sabot).

I heard that they were more of a vmax varmint bullet, not a SST hunting bullet. If that were the case, they may be a bit too frangible.

They are technically a Vmax with the interlock ring to make them stay together in larger critters.

I shoot 130gr. sst in 270. Both bucks shot on the rifle hunt this year didnt take a step so im happy with their overall performance.

Woh... So they stopped making the 7.62x39 round with the V-max bullet? I just checked the website and it's no longer there. It must be true.


If meat damage wasn't an issue while hunting, would the v-max bullet be as effective as people say they are on deer?

I think the explosive aspect of the v-max bullet was perfect for HD or SD because of it's explosive characteristics to fragment and limited penetration.

Now SST is the replacement and confused me yet again.
