A conversation. My friend says he got some 7.62x43 ammo. Usually uses 7.62x39 in his Russian SKS. He doesn't know what the difference is in this x43 stuff and I think this was what he was referring to when he said he had never heard of it before (the x43 I mean). There was lots of info and I have no idea about these things.

So the question he has.... He measured every angle and dimension of both shells and could see zero difference between the two.
What measurement does the x39 or x43 represent?
And, can he use the 7.62x43 safely in the russian sks?
There was even talk of a typo on packaging or something (I walked into the middle of the talk so sorry if my question/info is confusing).

Stevo and apoc are bang on.

It was the first bullet design for the 7.62x39 cart which yielded poor wounding effects. The M67 was redesign to create more damage in tissue.

Case closed.

The crates say 7.62 - 43 on the side, NOT 7.62 x 43.

7.62 M43 was the Soviet's designation for what we call 7.62x39.

The "dash" 43 was mentioned now that You remind me. Again, sorry for the confusion because I walked into the middle of the debate and then got a summary to put out here.

So if it says 7.62 "-" 43 he's good to go. It's the exact same ammo, different labelling.

And thanks all.
