I came into some odds and sods Ball Ammo, some of which do not carry the NATO head stamp. Does anyone recognize the following two head stamps?

1. ^Z 7.62 69 with black primer

2. SB 79 7.62x51 with green tinged staked primer

Safe to shoot?

Thanks!

Spanish surplus. The stuff I have Century imported. Still have some. Shoots like a house on fire outa my M14. Great stuff. Berdam primed so probably corrosive. Wish we could still get it at the price I paid for it. Sticker on the box $3.40/20rds

That top one looks like ZV. It would be Czech in teal boxes and is corrosive. Black primer and the year gives it away

You're correct, when one reads things so that the letters and numbers are right side up, it reads "ZV".

So is the ZV and SB safe to shoot?

All the rest has a NATO stamp. Most of it is IVI. Of interest is one DOMINION round with the NATO stamp.

The VZ black primer stuff, as well as some Czech 308 with a red primer sealant is definately corrose and is safe to shoot once you understand the absolute need to clean the bore and entire gas system with boiling water. Dont believe the BS about "just spray Windex in the bore"
I shot off about 4000 out of the 5000 rounds I bought many years ago and lived to tell about it.

Grab what you can when you can (within reason). That's how I ended up with the odds and sods. It ended up being mostly IVI (a little luck there) and a mix of other stuff. All shootable.

Another 250 rnds in my cache. Haaarrrr!
