7.62x51 Nato

Got my crate today. All berdan but that's okay, I don't reload anyway.

Thanks marstar and Ian for coordinating the Toronto group buy!

Can anyone comment on the quality of this surplus ammo compared to current production Federal Lake City 7.62? The prices appear similar.

At 133$ cheaper I wouldn't put it in the same class, But Caramel has had great success with it so far with some pretty extensive range testing

Fired 50 rounds through my FAMAE SG542 this evening—everything worked great. Last group of the day was 3.25 MOA at 100m (with iron sights). I'm very happy with it!

Here's how my morning went. Over and over. PGW Coyote.
Failure to fire: 100%
Failure to eject: 40%
When trying to "trick" my rifle, still fail to fire of 100%, except for the random round.
Successful firing of Nosler match, and the other two brands I tried, 100%.

And I forgot my M1A Supermatch, so will have to wait a week to try it. Otherwise I'm out of rifles. The photos are of two separate 5 round groups in case that isn't obvious. Click click, indeed.

Othoboy that is quite a surprising result:eek: Were the rounds hard to chamber?

Many THANKS to Ian for organizing the GTA group buy. It went seamlessly, great comms, always keeping all the group members up-to-date. Kudos for running it discreetly and efficiently.
Cheers.

I'm not sure if I'd try surplus in my Coyote. You can see the results. My M1A, yes. But not my PGW.

Like i was saying, match chamber rifles and this surplus are imcompatible, there were not made for it... JP.

This ammo is not to be use in a match chamber rifle, in my Nemesis, i had 3 light strikes ( no ignition and all 5 rounds i tried had difficult extraction), this ammo will be kept for my AR-10's/FNAR/NM M1A, were it is perfect in it's intended usage... JP.

will be interesting to hear your results shooting it in a match chambered NM M1A, I would think if it's giving guys trouble in match grade bolt guns , it will be equally problematic in tight chambered M14/M1A rifles.

No problems in my NM M1A, got a couple hundred rounds of HP74 out of it, and it's the best ammo i shot so far in my NM, if we except Federal GMM 168 gr at 200 yards grouping were very decent, picture up when Photobucket unfreeze... Dam ... JP.

One target, 18 shots at 200 yards using HP74 with a NM M1A scoped with a Burris 3X9X40 mounted on a CASM...
From the sand bags, pretty good stuff if you ask me... JP.

well that's awesome news Caramel, thanx for sharing that, good piece of mind as I was, as I posted previously, hesitant to order this stuff for my LRB

Hey JP, care to share some pics of the groups you got with the AR-10T yesterday? Didn't had a chance to try my Hirtenberger ammo out of the FNAR and 10A-T yet. The FNAR looks promising though!

Definitely doesn't like your coyote, Interested in selling the ammo ?! haha

If it doesn't fire in my SUPER MATCH M1A, I'll be unloading 4 unopened crates plus an opened 500 rounds into the Edmonton/Alberta market. I'll suck it up. I suppose I could wait for the Modern Hunter to arrive, but we're now at 3 months behind and no joy. I'm going to give some to StormChaser and he'll do a report next week.

Of course, how could the manufacturers have expected such great match quality rifles 40 years in the future? My fault for wanting to stock up. Still a good deal, not Marstar's problem. I guess a Ferrari can't be expected to run on regular gas either.

I expect it might be, and I know you know the SA M1A better than most. Maybe that heavy oversized walnut stock of mine will talk some sense into the ammo.
