7.62x54 on stripper clips, 15 round boxes...

Sealed in something between tar and creosote over waxed paper in what looks to be a 540 round crate...copper casings with two small numbers(?) at 12 and 6 o'clock...only thing I can see on the wood is a large black "S" beside a "V/F".

Has anyone seen this and can anyone tell me more about it?
 
Ok thanks! Any difference from any other Russian ammo aside from bullet weight? I'm starting to think I haven't quite discovered a real treasure!
 
That does sound like the Hungarian packaging. I have the remains of a case of that light ball, with no tip color and headstamp 21 over 51. It's the original type "L" obr.1908 9.6g/147gr spitzer, lead core, hollow flat base rather like the back of .303 Mk7 ball, with the later (post-1930) changes to bimetallic (plated steel) jacket and case. It's reliable, with fair accuracy in my rifles, and is what the Mosins and SVTs were sighted for. Unfortunately, whatever plant made the chargers for my case (chargers unmarked, original crate markings illegible) did a lousy job - tight dimensions with sloppy bends and difficult to use.

Well Damn...Stay tuned I might have to sell a few...dozen!! All I need is a couple for the m44 and once the ammo's gone I can get rid of it too!!
 
I use 'em in my mosin, haven't had a problem yet. I have old Izzy clips which work great, that probably makes a difference as I hear the new ones are a pain.

I have to ask what chargers have you used? Of the 7.62x54R ones I have, the Hungarian ones from my crate of light ball and the new-production NC-Star repro-Tikka ones are variously difficult to impossible to use, but 1940s vintage Ishevsk ones, older PRC-issue brass and black (blued) steel ones, and irridescent-yellowish Polish ones work just as well as any Mauser, Lee-Enfield, or .30/7.62mm/5.56mm U.S. ones I have ever used. I should also note that at least some of the NC-Star ones can be made usable, if not necessarily smooth, with sufficient polishing of the insides.

The ones at TradeEx for $6 work fine.

I notice at the range that many people don't use them correctly. Watch this video and you can see the guy load it seamlessly and have the clip automatically eject, as it should. You can rewind if you want to learn how to properly stack the clips:

I'm not sure which ones I use. They are blued steel. Got them off ebay. I just find it really annoying to have to lift the top round when charging.
