7.62x54

Probably better off in the ammo section.

Not really sure what the question is, but corrosive milsurp 7.62x54R is available from frontier taxidermy (they've got their banner at the top of the page). You of course can't hunt with that stuff though.

As far as hunting ammo goes, it's around... not rare, but some stores may not have it.

Edit: after rereading, No. 7.62x54R does not have an "equivalent" cartridge. The 308/7.62x51 thing resulted from the americans using different names, and some jumble of other reasons I've never paid attention to. 54R is 54R, fortunately though, for plinking 54R surplus is pretty cheap.

Cheapest and best bet would be to pull the bullets from the surplus stuff and use softpoints, gives you an excuse to buy some reloading gear,

I think what he is asking is if there is a civilian non-corrosive equivelent to 7.62x54r

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Surplus from Frontier and hunting rounds from whereever they may be found (Igman and Norma make them)

56 grns BCL-2 on top of a 124 grn bullet. Hornady or pulled 7.62 X 39 work equally as well. This recipe turned my average M-44 into a minute of angle rifle. No surplus ammo comes anywhere close.

I see boxer primed, soft point AND ball Privi Partisan ammo at some of the shops as well as all the gun shows I've been at. It's excellent ammo. I've been reloading Privi cases for 15 years now with a cheap($3?.00) Lee Handloader kit and taking deer with one of my M44's. The kit said to use .308 diameter bullets which I did and my rifle shoots minute of angle. Some guys have told me you can't get good results with .308 diameter bullets and need .311/.312 but it works for me just fine. 2 out of 3 shots will drill a 12 guage empty off the back board at the 100 yard range for me if I am in good shooting form. GRIN I am sure that there is a wide variety of bore diameters out there especially in the wartime produced rifles so maybe some rifles do shoot like crap with the smaller diameter bullets. The one I shoot all the time is a Polish Factory #11. They are spectacular little carbines.
