7.62x54R ammo

And by the way guys, Marstar still has lots of Czech 54R left. Just ordered another crate today ;)

They are virtually out of 7.62x39 though... If it's not all gone today, it will be gone shortly.

Hopefully more on the way though... it's a popular round.

Claven, I just bought an M44.

How do I order from Marstar if I can't find any Hungarian?

Will TSE bring it in, or can I have it mailed to my home?

I heard the Hungarian 174gr. yellowtip was MG ammo, the bullet weight, kick and production tolerances (lots of the cases on the thousands I've shot we're so out of spec they wouldn't chamber in any of my Mosins) would seem to confirm that.

The stuff I got from SIR wont chamber in my mosin, but the stuff I got from somewhere else will. Hmmm. So I bought many many cases of it. In fact, I bought IT ALL MWAHAHAHA!!!

Del Selins in Vernon has Chech and Hungarian surplus for $5.95 for a box of 20 rounds....Every time I go there(probably once a week)...they have an ample supply....

yellow tip

no mention of it ever being machine gun....

google is your friend ;-)

Not when its wrong. Yellow tip is a heavier bullet, used almost exclusively for machine guns, and also for the SVD. Though by the time the SVD was put into production, they didn't coat the heavy ball with a yellow tip, as it was the only kind of 54r being produced...but the SVD still shoots heavy ball.

the hungarian yellow tip is not hotter than commercial S&B ammo loaded with 180 gr bullets, in fact it is slightly slower.

I was down at Wolverine the other day and they had a pile of IGMAN 7.62x54R that is brass-cased, Boxer-primed with soft-point bullets and at under $14 a box of 20. I have tried the stuff and it isn't too bad but the brass is just fine for constructing precision loads: very consistent.

Give Ryan or John at Wolverine a shout and get it on the big grey dog.

Just to let you know the marstar site shows 7.62x54r as being out of stock. With sir running low & the smaller stores reduced to what they have on hand, I think we are pretty well screwed for surplus for a while.

Since the price of milsurp isn't cheap anyways, I decided to handload for my M44. The milsurp ammo works out at least 30 cents per bang, my handload won't be a lot more expensive than that and will be non-corrosive.

I have never bought any 7.62/54 as I don't have anything that shoots it(yet those mosins are looking pretty good) but was thinking if I could fine some cheap surplus the bullets might work well as .303 reloads. I have heard of people using /39 rounds for a varmint bullet.

Isn't 7.62/54 supposed to be the cheapest centerfire rifle round now that /39 has gotten so expensive?

Which surplus /54 round would have the best bullet for use in a reloaded .303 cartridge.? That heavy yellowtip one sounds like it might work?

With hundreds, if not thousands of Mosins kicking around in Canada these days it's amazing that no-one seems to bother with the commercial stuff besides districorp.
