Hey guys, I've been loading for my 1934 91/30 for a few months, and I've gotten pretty decent results with 42 gr of Varget and H4895 behind a 180 gr Sierra Prohunter .311 bullet (my bore slugs to .3125"). I'm just about out of both of these powders, and I'm wondering if I should pickup some more Varget, or trying something else?

Before trying other powders, I'd try a larger bullet - something in 0.312"+ and long (i.e. heavy). Then back to those powders you already have, which are optimum for bullets up to about 150 gr but can be accurate with heavier bullets. If you find a satisfactory load, stop. Otherwise, I suggest you try H4350, which will give higher MV's and might be more accurate.

Hornady/ .312, 150 gr stuffed with 53grains of IMR4350 and Federal primers gives me 1 - 2 MOA at 100 yards. I prefer 150 grain so I don't have to resight when i shoot my surplus ammo.

Thanks for the tips guys, I think I may try both of these things, as I've got a serious case of reloading fever... Think I may enjoy reloading, and the prospect of maximizing the potential of a rifle that most likely trudged it's way through WWII, than I actually enjoy shooting it...
