Hello all. Bought my first 1891/30 and can't wait to fire it but it seems the best thing to do is get headspace gauges before I do...does anyone in Canada sell these or where do you guys get them from? Thanks.

I haven't heard a lot of stories about bad headspace in Mosins (then again, I'm still quite new to milsurps so maybe I haven't read enough yet). I'd fire a round or two and inspect the brass closely, I think if headspace was really bad you'd see signs on your empty brass.

Or, drop by a gunsmith's shop; no need for you to buy gauges if you're only going to check one gun!

"...You don't need a gauge to..." You do to properly check headspace on any rifle. Empty cases or bits of tape tell you nothing.
Brownell's lists Cylmer Go and No-Go and Forster Field guages. No full sets from either maker. $25US each for the Clymer and $27.40US for the Forster. You really only need the No-Go and Field to check headspace. The Go is required to fit a barrel.
However, like louthepou says, Mosins rarely have headspace issues. Unless some twit changed the bolt. Not many of them have been assembled out of parts bins the way Lee-Enfields have been.

Hi

Thanks for the advice. Bolt is matching and rifle looks to be in fairly good condition so when I get the time (university finals) I'll fire some rounds and check the brass. Can't wait to hear the 1943 beast bark.
