How the hell do I open this thing? I got a sardine can of 7.62 x 54r from a guy but it has no opening?

:D

Actually, there should be a little tool in the case somewhere to help open it up... ;)

It should look something like this:

I used a hammer and a chisel on a can of Hungarian 7.62x54R a couple years back...

can opener, chisel, grinder, blow torch, hack saw, pry bar.

These are just some of the ideas that I've heard of. I guess the trick to the blow torch is to be quick. :D

I am sure that someone with a spare could send you one. But to use it right away, a normal can opener would probably work. Not the type that is on the kitchen counter. The type like you would find on a swiss army knife or multi-tool.

x2 for the can opener that screwed to the under side of the lid from the ammo crate. I was stumped for a good while until I posted on here and the good folks suggested looking on the under side of the lid - low and behold there was my solution.

... or you could just shoot it open.

The proper way to open Comrade! Utilize Soviet sneaking abilities to take a Comrade's knife, bayonet or screwdriver. Then using hand (or mallet if you have Socialist tenancies) hit back of object while point is on 45 degree angle to metal, near rim on inside. Continue until is 1/4 way open or more. Then grip, and using Soviet strength, rip open. Or continue opening with previous method if your faith in our Great Motherland is not yet strong enough. Then, distribute ammunition to your 9 comrades, who do not have rifle like you! ;)

HAHAHA thanks for that laugh ... I used a Swiss Army knife can opener and got the corner open to pull her back with my hands as you said. :D Why does this ammo stink? HAHA.

the opener in the crate works if you have nothing else. The best thing is a grinder to take a shaving off the top edge all the way around the can : 18 seconds. A chisel and a pair of pliers works well, cut the corner up and peel back like a sardine can.

get a hammer and chisel and use to cut one side of the top of the can, dont dont it length wise, then grab a set of pliers and pinch and start rolling it, its hard to do but gives you a sense of accomplishment. you will then find rounds in packs of 20 rolled in brown paper. its like opening a time capsule

It probably stinks from old age and some sort of cheezy fish oil used to treat the casings or something they used on the paper to avoid rusting.

Hey, you got a SPAM can of ammo to shoot now. That smell isn't "stink". It's the smell of range happiness! ! ! ! :D
